i loved this episode. it was so funny wen he posed as an old man in the beginning. "my business is my business and none of yours!" bumi is a nut but amazing "lettuce leaf?". the challenges were crazy and the battle was nuts. i loved how bumi sunk into the ground and came out on the balcony.

For me I could tell it was Bumi because of the crazy eyes they both had, Also Omashu is what is considered a City State, like Sparta. They are allied with the EN of course but retain their independence, probably because they are so far away from Ba Sing Sai.

I think you can go further in that statement, the earth kingdom is kinda like ancient greece, more of a confederation of city states than a true country

I actually liked this one bumi is such an amazing character and bender. Not to mention he is older than the war and bumi was just toying with aang which is a very scary thing. Had he been serious he could have killed aang.

It would be nice to have a bit more bumi background than just making him aang's old friend.

I agree, though I'm glad this episode didn't overdo his background.  Such a flashback episode would've been pointless in the grand scheme of the series.

I'd also have to say that I'm surprised Aang didn't recognize Bumi earlier.  He has a pretty unforgettable face/personality/everything.  XD

It just bothered me that they just created this huge gap of a hundred years with bumi. He background is so vague.

A lot of the characters have vague backgrounds (granted, not as vague as a hundred years unaccounted for) but the show would've been too filler-ish and drawn-out if they'd have gone into every one of them.  I believe I posted in the spin-off topic that I wouldn't mind seeing a Bumi, Kuzon, and Aang spin-off - I think that would be the best way to address/explore Bumi's past.  I'd love to see some practice fights between Aang and Bumi (Kuzon, too, if he's a firebender, or even a relatively good fighter).

Anyway, back on topic...

This episode was more interesting the first time I watched it than any other time, because I didn't know Bumi was toying with Aang the first time.  Once I knew that, I wanted him to just figure it out already, especially since it seemed so obvious looking back.  Despite that, I enjoyed this episode for the most part.  The background coughs when Bumi tries to be funny never get old!  Neither do those two other guys that Aang could've fought instead of Bumi:

We always joke that the one on the left was an early design for Zuko. Tongue

^^ I don't want them to overkill his character but a couples of lines just to fill in some gaps would have been nice.

What really scares me about this episode is that bumi could have easily killed aang if he wanted to. If this was a bloodlusted bumi could have easily suffocated aang in the sand he made, i'd hate to get this old man pissed of.

Nearly all of the characters in ATLA could kill you.  Even Sneers. Shocked

But yeah, an angry Bumi would not be fun.  Well, if you were the one he was angry at, anyway.  I wonder what it would take to get him angry...

On another note, every time I see this episode, it makes me want rock candy.  Tongue

Good thing Bumi isn't (or at least doesn't seem like) the type to go all bloodlusty on someone.  I have a hard time picturing him pissed off, too.  I think, if anything, he'd just mess with people who angered him like he did with Aang - except probably worse.  XD

It makes me cringe when he takes a big bite out of the Jennamite...that would hurt my teeth.  XP

Also, OMGSNEERSSPASMHACKDIE.  That is all.
