No. As much as I love musical theatre, this just would not work. So no. Just no.

I don't know, if they can make a moderately decent musical out of Evil Dead and Monty Python Avatar would be easy.

I first saw this and I'm thinking "That sounds really stupid" but after reading the songs I like the idea! Something like that would be halarious. Smiley

I could totally see Katara in Book 3 or Hamma singing something along the lines of "No Good Deed" from "Wicked."
Or Ty Lee in prison, and then Mai telling her to shut up.
Also:
Katara & Toph (The Chase) or Zuko and Katara (after CoD) singing "What is This Feeling (Loathing)", also from Wicked.

(CALL JOSS WHEDON)

QFT. Poor Zuko does have that Dr. Horrible air about him, doesn't he?

I've thought of how best to turn Avatar into a musical, and I decided that if anything it should be done in a way that it's almost a modern-day opera: that is, there's almost no actual dialogue, everything would be sung instead of spoken. It's in keeping with a lot of Asian theatre traditions, and it would allow for the character beats Avatar is known for to play out in a much more organic fashion in a potential musical.

Do you know what's funny?  I had a dream once, about an Avatar Musical.  The first act, they sang all the lines (very horribly I might add) and the second act, it was very Broadway show-tuney.

And what do you know, I come here and find this forum.

Sounds like fun. Cheesy It could be funny, like that Westside Story thing from SDCC. Cheesy I always thought that pretty much anything from The Prince of Egypt would work well for an Avatar musical.

Avatar the Musical would be kind of like this Roll Eyes

But seriously, I'd totally love an Avatar musical.  I'd buy the soundtrack and memorize all the songs by heart it would be awesome.

As much as I oppose an Avatar musical, I wouldn't oppose an Avatar Opera (because I'm a music geek like that)

^^This would be pretty sweet too.  Operas are cool. Cool

Zuko: Oh destiny!  Oh destiny!  Why can't you come to me?  Destiny, tell me!  Am I so unworthy?
Everyone is holding their ears .
Toph: The only thing you're unworthy of is your own role in the musical.

All I want to see is Ozai humming something narcissistic when getting dressed/ or when he is alone e.g.

It seems today
that all you see
is violence in movies and sex on tv
but where are those good ol' fashion values
on which we used to rely

lucky there's Firelord Ozai
lucky there's a man who'll positively can do
all the things that make us
laugh and cry

he's Firelord Ozai

Leave it to Zuko to turn Singing in the Rain in to something completely depressing.

I'm singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain
What a detestable feeling
I'm moody again
cursing at the clouds
So dark up above
The thunder is in my heart
and I'm ready to give it back
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place
Come on with the rain
I've got a scar on my face
I walk down the lane
With a depressed refrain
Just singin'
Singin' in the rain.

If there were to be an Avatar musical, it would have to be at least somewhat reminiscent of Chinese opera, with exaggerated costumes and makeup and stylized movements. (Think Ember Island Players, only not so comically inept.) I would use some of the more prominent BGM themes as the basis for some of the songs, and make heavy use of a backup choir to set and maintain the tone of each scene.

And yes--Aang would probably be played by a woman. Why not? Peter Pan is always played by a woman onstage.

What we need is a live reenactment of The Boy In the Iceberg (the play, of course Roll Eyes ). With some songs added in. A combination of epic comical proportions. Cheesy

Ok, if Avatar was a musical there would have to be some parts that are really, REALLY dark ALA Sweeny Todd. Here's a song I made up for the moment in the finale when Azula is hallucinating and sees Ursa in the mirror. (Note: I haven't seen this scene in a while so I'm not quite sure of everything that was said.)

Azula: (slashing her hair with scissors)

Ursa: (softly singing offstage) "Daughter, your beautiful hair!"

Azula: (Looks up and sees her reflection with a twisted smile. The smile fades as Ursa appears in the mirror before her.) "What are you doing here?"

Ursa: "Azula, Azula, to you I am quite dead,
But I came back to see you with a crown upon your head."

Azula: (Singing angrily) "Foolish woman!
Your husband has rendered it worthless.
The crown I have is a sham,
For he is a Pheonix now,
And I am forever below him,
And though I sit upon the golden throne,
I tell you the truth, I sit there all alone."

Ursa: (Sadly) "Child, what of your friends? You threw them in prison, though they loved you to the last."

Azula: (Singing, while turning away from the mirror) "Love does not create loyal servants, mother dear,
The only thing that truly works to create lackeys is fear.
The servants feared me, my friends feared me,
The soldiers feared me, the peasants feared me,
My Uncle feared me, my brother feared me,
For they knew what I know, that I have no soul,
That fact alone has taken it's toll.
                                                                     Even you feared me!"

(Slight pause)

Ursa: (Softly singing her next few lines) "I love you, Azula."

Azula: (Tears spill down her cheeks)

Ursa: "I love you, my child."

Azula: (Shutting her eyes) "No..."

Ursa: "I love you, my daughter."

Azula: (Grabs for her hairbrush)

Ursa: (sadly) "I love you..."

Azula: (Whirling around, her face contorted into a horrible expression) "NO!" (Throws the brush at the mirror, shattering Ursa's reflection. Azula collapses to her knees, sobbing. The lights softly dim, until there is nothing but blackness.)

Well guys, what do you think?
