I'm listening to a CD I have called "I Ching Symphony." Every Avatar fan on the planet should own this if they can find a copy! It has eight tracks of Chinese-style music inspired by the nature symbolism of the I Ching trigrams:

1. Ch'ien (Heaven)
2. K'un (Earth)
3. Chen (Thunder)
4. Sun (Wind)
5. Li (Fire)
6. K'an (Water)
7. Tui (Lake)
8. Ken (Mountain)

My favorite is Ch'ien, but all of them make for excellent character themes from the series. The creator, Frank Steiner, Jr., apparently has another album out entitled "Touching Silk," but I've never heard it.

Rather than closing or having this topic (which doesn't really start any kind of conversation) fall into the depths and die, I'm going to hijack it.

The topic, which goes along with the first post, is now "Songs that remind you of Avatar." The title has been changed. Enjoy the conversation.

Because of my love of combining culture, I keep finding Celtic music that remines me of Avatar! Almost all the songs on my Celtic Women CD work. There's a song about two lovers seperated by the sea and the sun called Send me a Song that reminds me of Sokka and Yue and so many more!

Ack! Thread pirates! Eh, no matter. I'll just take this opportunity to mention another tune that I think goes very well with the show: "Laughing Buddha," a violin instrumental by the fabulous Vanessa Mae. It makes me wish I had the means to make AMV's (animation music videos)--it would make a great "display piece."

Why yes, as a matter of fact, I do write fanfiction.

While watching the end of "Bitter Work" all I could think of was my theme song, "Lightning Rod" by the Offspring.

Edit: Oh, and "Journey" by Yuna Ito <3

Saving Me - Nickelback ~ It just makes me think of the whole Avatar Spirit thing, and how when each Avatar dies, they don't really go to heaven, since they're reincarnated. ...don't ask.

Another Bites The Dust - Queen ~ The whole war thing, of course. I see it from the Fire Nations point of view.

Sidewalks - Story of The Year ~ A whole after-the-war scenario. -shrugs-

Headstrong - Trapt ~ Zuko. Nothin' more to say.

Pieces - Sum 41 ~ Zuko, again. Can't really explain this one.

...that's all for now, folks. xD I have a sudden urge to make an Avatar fanmix. -shrugs-

After seeing Force's, JJJ's, and ignite444's music videos, I cannot listen to Requiem for a Tower (the song from the Two Towers Trailer) without thinking about Avatar (and the mv's are what led me on a 5-6 hour search for it to begin with).

Also "Bounty Hunter" from Advent Rising reminds me of it too for some reason.

Smiley Hmm, for our favorite lightning-bending Princess, whom I've officially dubbed "Sparky", I think "Everybodys Fool" by Evanasence would be perfect! And here's the lyrics and the music video to prove it!.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWy9ht-Gg1c

Perfect by nature
Icons of self indulgence
Just what we all need
More lies about a world that
never was and never will be
Have you no shame, don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled

Look, here she comes now
Bow down and stare in wonder
Oh how we love you
No flaws when you're pretending
But now I know she
never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled

Without the mask where will you hide?
Can't find yourself lost in your lies

I know the truth now
I know who you are
And I don't love you anymore

It never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled

It never was and never will be
You're not real and you can't save me
Somehow now you're everybody's fool

This is for anyone who likes the idea of the Zuko/Song pairing from their encounter in Chapter 22!. "Travalling Soldier" performed by The Dixie Chicks!.

Two days past eighteen
He was waiting for the bus in his army green
Sat down in a booth in a cafe there
Gave his order to a girl with a bow in her hair
He's a little shy so she gives him a smile
And he said would you mind sittin' down for a while and talking to me?
I'm feeling a little low
She said I'm off in an hour and I know where we can go

So they went down and they sat on the pier
He said I bet you got a boyfriend but I don't care
I got no one to send a letter to
Would you mind if I sent one back here to you?

I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Never more to be alone when the letter said
A soldier's coming home

So the letters came from an army camp
In California then Vietnam
And he told her of his heart it might be love
And all of the things he was so scared of
He said when it's getting kinda rough over here
I think of that day sittin' down at the pier
And I close my eyes and see your pretty smile
Don't worry but I won't be able to write for awhile

I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Never more to be alone when the letter said
A soldier's coming home

One Friday night at a football game
The Lord's Prayer said and the Anthem sang
A man said folks would you bow your heads
For a list of local Vietnam dead?
Crying all alone under the stands
Was a piccolo player in the marching band
And one name read and nobody really cared
But a pretty little girl with a bow in her hair

I cried
Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too young for him they told her
Waitin' for the love of a travelin' soldier
Our love will never end
Waitin' for the soldier to come back again
Never more to be alone when the letter said
A soldier's coming home

An absolutely crazy and outrageous idea, but what if, somehow, our Azula repented and redeemed herself by the end of the series?. Like, say, dear old Dad became fed up with her failed attempts to capture Zuko, Iroh, Aang and co and tried to get rid of her so she would have no choice but to reconcile with her brother and uncle and live wih them as a fugitive herself?. If a senario like that did happen, however unlikely, I think the English version of "Bratja" (Brothers) would fit the situation well.

How can I repay you, Brother of mine?
How can I expect you to forgive?
Clinging to the past, I shed our blood
And shattered your chance to live
Though I knew the laws, I paid no heed
How can I return your wasted breath?
What I did not know has cost you dear
For there is no cure for death

Beautiful Mother, soft and sweet
Once you were gone we were not complete
Back through the years, we reached for you
Alas, twas not meant to be
And how can I make amends
for all that I took from you?
I lead you with hopeless dreams
My brother I was a fool

Dont cry for the past now brother of mine
Neither you nor I are free from blame
Nothing can erase the things we did
For the path we took was the same

Beautiful Mother, soft and sweet
Once you were gone we were not complete
Back through the years we reached for you
Alas, twas not meant to be
My dreams made me blind and mute
I longed to return to that time
I followed without a word
My brother the fault is mine

So where do we go from here?
And how to forget and forgive?
What's gone is forever lost
Now all we can do is live

Well, after seeing a music video for this, I think "So Much For My Happy Ending" by Avril Lavign would be good for how I'm speculating things will go between Zuko and Mai when they meet up again; Those days are over and they aren't innocent kids anymore.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5hsIZtxGS8&search=Zuko%20and%20Mai

Oh, so much for my happy ending...

Let's talk this over
It's not like we're dead
Was it something I did?
Was it something you said?
Don't leave me hanging
In a city so dead
Held up so high
On such a breakable thread (breakable thread)

You were all the things I thought I knew
And I thought we could be...

You were everything, everything that I wanted
We were meant to be, supposed to be, but we lost it
All of the memories so close to me just fade away
All this time you were pretending
So much for my happy ending
Oh, so much for my happy ending

You've got your dumb friends
I know what they say (they say)
They tell you I'm difficult
But so are they (so are they)
But they don't know me
Do they even know you (even know you)
All the things you hide from me
All the stuff that you do (all the stuff that you do)

You were all the things I thought I knew
And I thought we could be...

You were everything, everything that I wanted
We were meant to be, supposed to be, but we lost it
All of the memories so close to me just fade away
All this time you were pretending
So much for my happy ending

It's nice to know that you were there
Thanks for acting like you cared
And making me feel like I was the only one
It's nice to know we had it all
Thanks for watching as I fall
And letting me know we were done

It was everything, everything that I wanted
We were meant to be, supposed to be, but we lost it
All of the memories so close to me just fade away
All this time you were pretending
So much for my happy ending

You were everything, everything that I wanted
We were meant to be, supposed to be, but we lost it
All of the memories so close to me just fade away
All this time you were pretending
So much for my happy ending
Oh, so much for my happy ending

I think this song fits for Ursa to sing to Zuko when she leaves. Its called "River Lullaby" and its from "The Prince of Egypt".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rB6rZ4GREIk&search=river%20lullaby

Hush now, my baby
Be still love, don't cry
Sleep like you're rocked by the stream
Sleep and remember
My lullaby
And I'll be with you when you dream

Drift on a river
That flows through my arms
Drift as I'm singing to you
I see you smiling
So peaceful and calm
And holding you, I'm smiling, too
Here in my arms
Safe from all harm
Holding you, I'm smiling, too

Hush now, my baby
Be still, love, don't cry
Sleep like you're rocked by the stream
Sleep and remember this river lullaby
And I'll be with you when you dream
I'll be with you when you dream

Here are the lyrics for Send me a Song:

take the wave now and know that you're free
turn your back on the land, face the sea
face the wind now so wild and so strong
when you think of me,wave to me and send me a song

don't look back when you reach the new shore
don't forget what you're leaving me for
don't forget when you're missing me so
love must never hold, never hold tight but let go

oh, the nights will be long when i'm not in your arms
but i'll be in your song that you sing to me
across the sea. somehow, someday
you will be far away, so far from me
and maybe one day i will follow you and all you do
til then, send me a song

when the sun sets the water on fire
when the wind swells the sails of your hire
let the call of the bird on the wind
calm your sadness and loneliness
and then start to sing to me
i will sing to you
if you promise to send me a song

i walk by the shore and i hear
hear your song come so faint and so clear
and i catch it, a breath on the wind
and i smile and i sing you a song
i will send you a song
i will sing you a song
i will sing to you
if you promise to send me a song

Most of the songs I hear tend to remind me more of Zuko than any other character on the show.  Here are the one's that really made me sit up and listen.  I'm also planning AMV's for these, but they won't be up for a while.

*My Wish- Rascal Flatts (AMV's in production, but, unfortunatly, I've lost the feel for the song.)

I hope that the days come easy and the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,

But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,
And you always give more than you take.

But more than anything, yeah, and more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

This is my wish
I hope you know somebody loves you
May all your dreams stay big

*Wheel in the Sky- Journey

Winter is here again oh Lord,
Haven't been home in a year or more
I hope she holds on a little longer

Sent a letter on a long summer day
Made of silver, not of clay
I've been runnin' down this dusty road

Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'
I don't know where I'll be tomorrow
Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'

I've been trying to make it home
Got to make it before to long
I can't take this very much longer
I'm stranded in the sleet and rain
Don't think I'm ever gonna make it home again
The mornin' sun is risin'
It's kissing the day

Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'
I don't know where I'll be tomorrow
Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'

*Ride- Rob Zombie (This one's gonna be fun.)

I tried to see the one that's free
Now it's gone
I tried to hear the one that's near
Move along
I tried to feel the one that's real
Is it wrong?
I tried to take to one that makes
Now it's gone

Innocent and wounded baby
Educated horses baby
Distant kings surrounding baby
Imitation of life baby

Dirty sweet and filthy
Beat your hand on me

This is where the ghosts hide
Now it's gone
This is where the truth lies
Move along
This is where the dirt flies
Is it wrong?
Up against the mud skies
Now it's gone

*And finally (for now):  Ready for the Storm- Singer's vary

The waves crash in and the tide pulls out
It's an angry sea but there is no doubt
That the lighthouse will keep shining in the night
To warn the lonely sailor

The lightning strikes and the wind cuts cold
Through the sailor's bones, to the sailor's soul
'Till there's nothing left that he can hold
Except the roaring ocean

But I am ready for the storm, yes oh ready I'm
I'm ready for the storm, I'm ready for the storm

Give me mercy for my dreams, 'cause every confrontaion
Seems to tell me what it really means to be a lonely sailor
But when the sky begins to clear and the sun it melts away my fear
I cry a silent, weary tear at those that mean to love me

And I am ready for the storm, yes oh ready I'm
I'm ready for the storm, I'm ready for the storm

Distance it is no real friend, and time will take its time
And you will find that in the end it brings you near a lonely sailor
But when you take me by your side, you love me warm, you love me
And I should've realized I had no reason to be frightened

And I am ready for the storm, yes oh ready I'm
I'm ready for the storm, I'm ready for the storm (x2)

*The following were heavily influenced by fanvids @ youtube.

Mars, Bringer of War by Holst

Animal I have Become by 3 Days Grace (particularly Zuko).

I'm Still Here (Treasure Planet Soundtrack) I think of Aang and Zuko, and I don't mean as in shipping.  It just fits both Aang and Zuko.

I also tend to think a lot of the score to Mulan

"Next 100 Years" & "Save the World" by Bon Jovi remind me of Aang.

"Burn" by 3 Days Grace remind me of Zuko and so does "Redemption" by Gackt for some strange reason. "Reckless Fire" (the S-cry-ed opening theme) reminds me of Zuko too.

"Sakura Drops" by Utada Hikaru reminds me of Sokka and Yue's short relationship... *tear*

"Devil in Disquise" by Elvis Presley reminds me of Azula... >.> She thinks she's such a little princess but...

Keiko Matsui music makes me think of Iroh...

There's at least one disaster per element in the song "Bad moon rising" By Creedence Clearwater Revival  Tongue Grin

Quote
I see the bad moon arising.
I see trouble on the way.
I see earthquakes and lightnin.
I see bad times today.

Chorus:
Dont go around tonight,
Well, its bound to take your life,
Theres a bad moon on the rise.

I hear hurricanes ablowing.
I know the end is coming soon.
I fear rivers over flowing.
I hear the voice of rage and ruin.

Chorus
All right!

Hope you got your things together.
Hope you are quite prepared to die.
Looks like were in for nasty weather.
One eye is taken for an eye.

Chorus

Neither fire nor wind, birth nor death can erase our good deeds.

I find myself making music videos in my head for Avatar
So do I, and most often while I'm driving o.O not good.

Azula- "She's a Woman" Billy Joel
Zuko- "Desperado" the Eagles (hehe, I'm not Zutara but I saw a beautiful AMV w/ this song with Zutara. It was really quite cute)
Aang- "Sadie Hawkins Dance" Relient K
the war and character conflicts- "Down in Flames" Relient K (wish I could make an actual AMV of the one that's in my imagination...)

Love is a river from the end credits of Anastasia makes me think of Aang and Katara for some reason.

Also, everytime I hear "I'll make a man out of you" I can't help but think of Sokka learning to fight from Suki. I then fall over giggling. XD

'Animal I have Become' by Three Days Grace best describes Aang while he's in the Avatar State.
'Click Click BOOM!' by Saliva best describes Aang while he's in the Avatar State better.
'Reise, Reise (Travel, Travel)' by Rammstein best decribes Katara......'cause I feel that German rock bands best describe the girls on Avatar.

Whee, I have a MySpace account!
