i don't know . . .
i guess iroh is most likely to be more powerful than ozai cause that's why azulon like iroh better
but then iroh gave up in the war . . . and etc. azulon gets mad at ozai for suggesting to betray iroh.

the whole family is sorta like that like ozai likes azula better than zuko, cause azula's a prodigy.

I agree that Iroh is superior to Ozai, but I disagree that Iroh is more hesitant about using his powers.  I think Ozai just has more drive.
I noticed Shocked

And if Ozai has more drive to use his powers, wouldn't that still make Iroh more hesitant?  I know it's a technicality, but also I've noticed that in the past Iroh hasn't used his powers unless he had to.  This may change later on, but that's what I perceived early on.

but see Iroh doesn't show his power off to everyone, he only uses the amount of his power that he needs to win a fight and nothing more than that.

so far we haven't seen iroh fight someone who is a master bender

when azula attacked iroh, that wasn't really a fight cause she lied by pretending to surrender

exactly, but remember zhao, is a master bender, and when he saw iroh in siege of the north, using only a little of his power, he ran away, now Azula is way more powerful than Zhao, but you saw how easily Iroh redirected her lightning.

No, I don't think so.. There's a difference between being hesitant and using your powers only when you need to. Iroh isn't hesitant, he knows when to use his power. But there's no really comparing Ozai and Iroh since we haven't really even seen Ozai in present form--only in flashbacks.

Iroh may be in turn stronger, but Sozin's comet will come into play as well, along with Iroh;s injusry, but if they do join Aang and the gang Katara will heal that right up.

I agree with omgasp we dont know anything about Ozai except what we learned from flashbacks and a few very small incidents and those dont tell us much. I think Iroh is more powerful but surrendered himself to the shadows after Ozai took the throne..basically he gave up everything[Lu Ten' Death] and went down because of his emotions. Irohs a stronger man than Ozai and i bet hed kick his butt neday

I think Ozai has to be at least good enough to impress his generals, and beat them at Agni Kai if any dare challenge him.

Whether Iroh or Azula is better seems to hinge on who makes the surprise move.

Is Ozai better than Azula? They don't fight.

I don't think the thread's question is answerable, yet. Iroh didn't challenge Ozai for the throne. There are many possible reasons why not, most of them having nothing to do with whether Iroh could beat Ozai in a one-on-one fight.

From what we know so far my thinking is that Ozai is stronger, but Iroh is wiser.  We have not seen Ozai do actual fighting up to this point and like many already said Iroh uses the energy that he needs.  I would give a slight edge to Iroh if I was forced to make a decision.

In some ways, Iroh's stronger. Ozai seems quick tempered. Or if he's not, then where did Zuko get his fiery temper from? Definitely not Ursa, no, she's gentle, comforting, loving, compassionate... Like father like son?

Iroh isn't that quick tempered, and has at least invented one technique in firebending that only two people know; diverting lightning. However, Ozai may be better in Iroh, a hotter flame or something, not sure. We haven't seen his power yet. Sure, he sits around flames, but it seems every Fire Nation King can do that.

Like Psy said, Iroh would probably have reservations about fighting his brother, Ozai wouldn't and that would make the difference.

I don't think Iroh would have any problem fighting his brother. Remember his opinion of Azula? "She's crazy and needs to go down."

This may be his experience speaking, as if, on reflection, he may think he should've challenged Ozai earlier.

I'm going with Iroh on this one, because from what we've seen in the show he's a pretty powerful bender. And now that he's buffed up, I can only think he'll be even more amazing!

Granted, I'm saying this with no idea at all of Ozai's abilities, but unless there's another supercool firebending trick Ozai can do that others can't I think Iroh is a safe bet.

Snip, spoiler

Um, this would fit in Battle Arena, but...

Iroh, because we've never seen him fight to his fullest, and you can just imagine the calm, calculating, humble guy win over the slightly impatient, boastful guy.

I say Iroh because he is known to be a bada**!!  Not to say Ozai is not because we have not seen anything fighting from the guy but I just think Iroh.

Even then, I think Iroh could win.  Wish we could go into a serious discussion about this... but we'll just have to wait.

Ozai.  He's had all the same training as Iroh, the same genes, but he's younger, fitter, and trains everyday both physically and in Firebending, something Iroh hasn't been doing.

Plus, since Ozai is the 'final boss' of the series, he's gotta be the 'baddest man on the planet'.

And why does everyone assume Iroh can own anyone he lays his eyes on?  Iroh's shown he's good, but nothing extraordinary, and his age has affected him negatively (like his short attention-span; see 'The Chase').

Fitter?  Have you seen Sokka's Master?  Plus we have no proof that Ozai doesn't sit on his butt everyday and has Azula do his dirty work for him.  Also, there might possibly be something in a certain future episode that could change your mind about Iroh.
