well if we're honest, Sozin was on to something when he tried to get rid of the Airbenders first.

I mean, for all their pacifist rhetoric, we know that the Master Airbenders, at least, didn't really hold back if they were under attack. Just One master alone had managed to kill EVERYONE attacking him, and those firebenders were all boosted with the Power of the Comet.
and that, let's be honest, even if they didn't do lethal shots, imagine an army of Aangs just swatting the Fire Nation aside as soon as they'd started attacking.

In my Opinion, the Genocide wasn't just because he wanted to break the Avatar Cycle (or something), he was actually taking down a very serious threat.

So no. if Sozin had tried to attack another nation first, there's not much of a chance they could actually win the war. the Airbenders would kick their asses.

Why would the Air Nomds have attacked Sozin for attacking the Earth Kingdom?

Did the Air Nomads really have significant numbers compared to the Fire Nation itself? Seeing that one master fought well against a small incursion force, and still lost, doesn't sound the Air Nomads would have been unbeatable.

The show answers that question already. Even while Roku was alive, Sozin was already conquering EK cities. After he let Roku die, I can only imagine Sozin amping up his war -sorry- 'sharing of FN culture and superiority'. 12 years after that, the Air Nomad Elders were very aware of what Sozin was doing. The AN intelligence network is superb. The dai li would be jealous. But for years, the AN did nothing but hide in their temples. Only when they learned Sozin was aiming his arrows at the AN, did they act... By putting all the burden of the world onto a 12 year old boy.

Doesn't sound all that mighty to me

I think Sozin was only obviously building up massive armies and navies with the clear goal of conquest, and not actually launching said conquest yet when Aang went missing.

But still, not much of a difference. Cheesy
