Just saw this episode!
Bumi lost his beer belly!"On that hunk of junk? No ho ho thanks. I'm allergic to drawning."
Oh, Varrick. xD
The Bolin/Varrick moments were great as usual. I enjoy seeing Bolin be the reasonable guy when he's usually the silly one. And Varrick beating himself up over being a bad person and losing Zhu Li was interesting. These episodes keep making me more eager and eager for that Zhu Lick reunion!
Bolin lavabending was awesome. Innocent, adorable Bolin and powerful, lethal lava. It's an interesting combination. It gives Bolin a more serious edge that I like.
The girl rebel's hairstyle was so convoluted. Like, what? Either you keep the hair loopies and put all the rest of the hair in a ponytail or you leave some hair out of the ponytail, but you don't have hair loopies, you don't do both at the same time.
Korra’s new look I did however like. I wasn’t sure that I would love it as much when I saw photos of her, but it has grown on me and people just tend to look better in motion than on stills so there’s that. I’m happy with the hair and I adore the outfit.
Asami was very snappy about her dad. That was very unlike her. I get that she would be defensive on the subject, but I expected more of a passive aggressive approach from her over a full-blown outburst. That felt a little forced.
I’m usually not a fan of toilet humor, but Mako’s unwillingness to talk about the way he guards Wu during his bathroom breaks had me lol. His awkwardness in general makes me laugh.
I also loved this:Wu: “I’m not going out there!”
Korra: ಠ_ಠ *bends him through the ceiling*
And the convo about Toph and how she's crankier than Lin was funny too.
The krew's reunion in general was just handled really well I think. They'll never be as much of an endearing family as the gaang was, but they're still a group of friends with a unique dynamic that is interesting to watch too.
I particularly liked the Makorra arguments and the way Mako was hurt by the fact that Korra didn't keep in touch. Shows how much he cares about her. I would have liked Mako not brushing it off so easily. It would also have been nice if Mako showed subtle signs of jealousy when Wu hit on Korra. Yeah, I'm a Makorrian.
Poor Wu! How inconsiderate of Korra to keep him out of the group hug. Wu is kind of a douche, but it's not like he's doing it on purpose. =(
It was hilarious how cold she was towards him the whole time though, especially that moment where Wu asks her to unleash her murderkiller avatar powers just so that he can see her eyes glow.
That man is the embodiment of clueless.
I didn't expect Korra to be able to use her spirit vine powers everywhere at will now. I'd assumed that the swamp was a particularly spiritual place and the tracking abilities were limited to it. Guess I was wrong. It makes me feel like Korra's a little overpowered, but hey if the writers are able to sustain the intrigue even after making our protagonists so incredibly bad@ss, more power to them.
I can't believe it never even occurred to me that Kuvira would go after the swamp for her spirit vine weapon. Of course
she would. Can't wait to see Granny Toph go"Oh no she di-n't just attack my home".
There's no way Kuvira will not lose a match against Toph unless she finds a clever way out of it.
The ethnic cleansing fits Kuvira's nationalistic ideals, but it was still a pretty big surprise. I mean she's shown that she wanted the Earth Kingdom to grow strong, but she never, at any point, behaved in a racist way so that felt a little out of the blue.
It feels like the writers really wanted her to be evil, so they made her evil in ways that aren't always consistent with her character. That's too bad.
I expected that we'd see a lot more of the Fire Nation this season, it's the only place we haven't been (or barely), but apparently that's not happening either? I'm disappointed. Well, it doesn't have to be in this episode, but I hope we see more of it in the future.
Kai is also still oddly absent. Jinora didn't even ask about him. Weird.
Other than that, there's not much to say. Great fighting. Great humor. Great episode.
