Wait, when was it stated that Unalaq hired the barbarians?
I don't have the transcript with me but the judge does blab it out and Korra shoves him into Naga's mouth...

I remember him saying he screwed Tonraq over but I can't remember the details.

At the time I thought that maybe the barbarian attack was legit and he just screwed him over at a later date somehow.

Yay, I have it saved in my email.

Quote
Hotah: What do you want?
Korra: It's not about what I want. It's about what Naga wants. And she'd like you to let my father out of prison.
Hotah: I- I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do. I was just following Unalaq's orders.
Korra: What are you talking about?!
Hotah: I- I've said too much.
Korra: Unless you wanna be Naga's afternoon snack, you better keep talking.
Hotah: I- I've worked for your uncle for years! He said he needed everyone to think the trial was fair.
Korra: So Unalaq told you what to say?
Hotah: Yes! Every word.
Korra: Then why did he have you free my mother and change your sentence?
Hotah: He's trying to keep you on his side but he also wants your father out of the way. Just like when he got your father banished
Korra: What do you mean "he got my father banished"?
Hotah:Nothing!
Korra: Keep talking.

~ Some scenes later ~

Korra: I found out the truth about my Dad's banishment. Unalaq hired the barbarians to attack their tribe. Then he told them to hide in the spirit forest, knowing my Dad would go after them.

The reasons that Unalaq is currently in the wrong in my eyes are these.  Unalaq is guilty of treason in that he intended to do what he did.  He was never punished.  Tonraq was punished for what he did (as he should have been the question is if the punishment was to harsh or if it wasn't based upon our knowledge of Unalaq's involvement)  Tonraq has paid for his crime, Unalaq still needs to pay for his crime and requires immediate removal from the throne.  Afterwards someone needs to be elected in some way to fill the seat.  I don't believe Tonraq still has the 'right' of the seat but I doubt he won't be voted in at least by the Southern vote, and I feel like he would do a fine job having had this long to reflect on his crime and penance.

Good argumentation, there...

But I doubt it would go in the direction of Unalaq being prosecuted for the crimes against his own tribe, since he seems to be in league with Vaatu, and will feel the wrath and full power of a fully realized Avatar Korra soon enough...

So I'm finally back to watching this.

Korra: Peacekeepers. Um, yay?
Oh my gosh, thank goodness for these recaps.
Lin! “Thanks for starting a war~”
Oh yeah, Mako’s a cop. Forgot that.
Korra=/= diplomacy
Oh, Varrick, excellent priorities.
I forget why the sprit portal is important. Reasons?
Poor Eska, the mascara isn’t working for her anymore.
Poki =/= the new Momo
Lol Tenzin and training.
What on earth is this animation?
“Get a real job!” the amount of times I’ve had this shouted at me…
Wow, blowing stuff up for reasons?
Haha! That guy in the crowd ripping his hair out.
OMG Mako! That’s called ~Technology~
“Of course they’re responsible, who else would it be?” UMMMMM…. MAYBE THE FIREBENDER?
Oh Varrick, I know you turn out evil but you’re still pretty awesome.
Bolin =/= Usain Bolt
Oh my gosh, fandom.
President? When?
Evidence, Korra? That’s the Word on the Street.
Ugh, Korra, blaming people for your mistakes is not hot.
So Makorra is still endgame? This makes me sad.
Asami knows her priorities.
“That’s perfect!” Yeah! War Profiteering!
Zhuli is perfect.
So, propaganda movies because reasons?
Mako, your brother just told you the entire plans for the SWT retaliation. I think that’s important too.
“WAIT A SECOND! THAT’S HIM!” Ummm…I feel like we missed some bridging moment here.
Why is Poki a B-plot? Or C-plot, whatever.
Ugh, pets in bed is yucky, Meelo.
Oh my gosh, fabulous police work.
How does any crime get solved here?
It’s okay Prez, Mako didn’t have the time of day for his brother’s confession.
IROH! IROH IROH IROH IROH
IIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH
iroh
Irohhhhhhhhhhhhh.
“I’m sorry, my hands are officially tied.” AHAHAHAHA BECAUSE ILLEGAL MILITARY ACTION BEFORE WAS OKAY UNTIL SOMEONE POINTED OUT THE OBVIOUS TO ME.
Ginger is fabulous.
Is this like, all happening in one day? A million things are happening.
Still failing to understand the C-plot’s relevance.
Korra, what the heck.
Yes, please breakup.
Oh Lin~
And then this. what. How are you here already?
And now a magic squid? Sure why not. Everything else happened in this episode.
Spirit’s like “LOL NOPE.”

What a mess this episode was. Just too much going on and huge jumps in logic and OOC and a C-plot that had no reason for being in there. Some of it was fun, in a bad movie kind of way. This has to be the show's lowest point, right? Please tell me it's only up from here.

Don't worry xD, this is like a "Spirit of Competition" of Book 2.

Oh, lol... Thought I'd use it as a joke, since both are the 5th episodes of their books and I think the most disliked. Sorry xD

If you liked the RC and Varrick stuff, I think you'll like The Sting (which is next). The Sting had its problems, but I highly enjoyed it: this were a lot more coherent.

But, it's a Mako episode, so there's that.

After this, I think the season pretty much goes up from here. Still rocky, but if I remember correctly, it doesn't get as bad again as the first few episodes.

And "The Metal Clan" from Book 3 broke that trend! Wink

But yes, Peacekeepers and The Southern Lights are my least favorite episodes of Book 2. I think Peacekeepers is my least favorite of Book 2 overall and maybe my least favorite of the entire series.

Peacekeepers had some pacing problems. This episode and Civil Wars, Part 2 had way too much going on in them. It's like Book 2 needed one or two more episodes....

This episode was only marginally better than the abysmal episode prior. As usual Varrick makes everything he is in better. I am in love with that cheesy Nuktuk propaganda film.

Varrick's presence also made me more forgiving of Asami. Sure she is a war profiteer, but Varrick is so charismatic!
