As most of you probably already know, Dark Horse Comics (which previously released The Art of the Animated Series and The Lost Adventures) will be bringing out a new Avatar the Last Airbender Graphic Novel series.

http://www.darkhorse.com/Books/18-604/Avatar-The-Last-Airbender-Volume-1-The-Promise-Part-1-TPB.

Since this is the Marketplace, this thread is for conversation/questions concerning merchandise (the comics and/or other A:TLA books). Feel free to talk about your plans to (pre)order, release dates, availability, etc.

Story speculation & opinions should be posted in the A:TLA Books threads on The Promise and/or in Future Avatar Comics.

I don't think I would surprise anyone by saying I am pre-ordering tonight. Wink

That should be a interesting read when it comes out.  I enjoyed the Artbook and the comic collection that were released last year and this year respectfully.

What?! I'm so excited! Cheesy I can't wait to read all of the adventures that comes after the finale! When will it be up for order on amazon, or will it ever be? My mom isn't permitting me to pre-order with my creditcard on this website she's not familiar with. Which, I'm 18, I should be able to order it on my own!

I've read American Born Chinese, Gene Yang's most well known piece of work.  It's a very good graphic novel.  In fact I've read it over a few times.  It's a cute story that has a cool blend of real life problems and mythology.  I have no doubt that he will do well writing Avatar.

well, the cover worries me a bit. the characters just don’t quite look like them... but as long as they act like them in the story I guess it doesn’t matter

^Apparently you guys didn't read the The Lost Adventures. It said that the artist is Gurihiru, who did a couple of the short comics in the first collection (including Boys' Day Out, Monster Slayer, and Love is a Battlefield). Anyway, his art style does tend to be a bit Disney-ish, but in all honesty, I kinda like it. It's cute.

As for Zuko looking a bit older, well it is set post season finale. All the characters should start to look a bit older.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with comic books as a form of entertainment, but artwork never looks the same.  Every artist has their own style and their own takes on different characters.  That's part of what makes comic books so special.  You get to see characters expressed through the eyes of many different people but in the end it's still the same character.

^ beast93boy, true true, I know it can be fun to see different illustrators portray their variation of the character design (heck you even saw diffrences from episode to episode). I guess I'm just hooked on the originals *sigh* Roll Eyes

What? Pre-order? The canon ones?! Yaaaayyyyyy!!!!!!!!

Some commented on amazon that pre-ordering will assure that the next books will be made as well...

*shrug*

We will see. Anyway, I read the reviews on the artist's "American born Chinese" and almost all have been quite the praise, so after the let-down of youknowwho as director and writer for the real action movie, I presume this will get back on the real quality track we like with ATLA or LOK.  Cool Grin
