Loved this episode.
Aang messing with Zhao, for him to burn all 3 boats.  Cheesy
Great way to introduce Katara's healing powers.
Also, notice Ozai's puppet has some big eyebrows... Grin
Wow!...loved how Sokka tackles Aang when he burns Katara...he was really concerned for his sister.
I hope Aang is able to find a firebending master that is "willing" to teach him. I doubt it will be Jeong Jeong.

Oh, I don't think Jeong Jeong will teach him initially. This wasn't really the time for Aang to learn firebending anyway since he still had to master water and earth first. What this episode did accomplish was to understand the depths of its powers as a warning to those that misuse its ability like Zhao did. That's Jeong Jeong's initial message to Aang: "Dont play with fire."

It was really funny seeing Aang try to get Zhao all worked up. "Ahoy! I'm Admiral Zhao!" *Wiggles his butt*  or  "I don't know why, but I thought you'd be better than Zuko!!" That remark just cracked me up.

I have a hunch that we'll see Jeong Jeong and his followers again soon. If they're not in Ba Sing Se with everyone else already since as of "The Desert", (it looks like everyone is heading there!!) then maybe they are hiding elsewhere.  If my suspicions are confirmed that it is indeed Zuko who will become Aang's firebending teacher, then Jeong Jeong will have to beat some sense into the Fire Prince's head before they begin.

The deserter is one of the episodes that gives the best insite into the firenation mentality, Jeong Jeong gives us a message that not all firebenders are "evil" and that the power of fire can burn the soul as well as the body...
I like to personally think that Iroh and Jeong Jeong are former mates or collegues by the way they talk about firebending, perhaps Jeong jeong was a former student of iroh?
theres some specculation for you.

Former student is unlikely since both Jeong Jeong and Iroh both are old.  But certainly it is possible that they knew each other since they both were in the Fire Nation army maybe the same Regiment???

Last time we saw him, Jeong Jeong and his followers were hiding very well within Firenation territorry. Considering that he is a past general (or admiral) of the Firenation, it may not be prudent for him to venture into Earthkindom turf. Zuko and Iroh had no choice in the matter, they were forced into it by circumstances. Unlike them, Jeong-Jeong is somewhat in control of his own life and his own fate. He chose to leave the Firenation army, and I believe it is his choice to stay within that nations borders, so that he can recruit more followers.

I think we will see Jeong-Jeong again in the third season, but not before then.

They will most likly cast someone else to do iroh assuming Iroh doesnt die in the season two finale.
But they have done a great job at casing, already they had one major change in actors (Mitchel Musso played Aang in the pilot and Zach Tyler Eisen played Aang afterwards and the transition is un noticeable)
I am sure they can do a decent recast of iroh but in the end it will never be the same.

Yea I think I heard somewhere that one of the last eppys for the Season finale will be called "The Failure" Iroh is in it hence the title for Ba Sing Se's wall.  But Do not take my word for it because I do not have proof.  Tongue

It appears that the Fire Nation uses a form of 'brain-washing' little children into thinking that the firelord is the hero, not the evil enemy...

This is also mentioned in ep.13 The Blue Sprit. The guy with the yuuyan archers uses the word propaganda (sp?).

This was a great ep.  Totally loved how Sokka took down Aang for hurting Katara.

It was deep to see the opposite end of the fire nation's spectrum.  How the fire hurts and burns more than the physical and how hard it can be for some with conflicting souls to deal with.

If Jeong Jeong doesnt return to teach Aang firebending by the end of the series I'll eat my foot. The festival scene was quite entertaining as we got to learn more about the fire nations culture. It was also interseting to hear what Jeong Jeong has to say about the horrors of fire and how it can destoy everythnig you hold dear.

Is it just me or one of the firebenders behind Zhao is a Woman? I' not pretty sure, but I saw a curve in his/her armor. If you're wondering in which part, is when Zhao is asking for the avatar in the town. If someone else notice this please tell me.

And this is one of my favorite eps in book I, not only because Aang firebend, but because someone tell him that he doesn't have dicipline and he need to focus sometimes and not just play, and he learned in the worst way that if you play with fire you will burn you. Something that didn't like me was, again, Aang attitude, what I think he must said was "It is not going to happen again" not that he wasn't going to firebend again, I can believe that he surrender so easly. But well he is just a kid  Undecided

Well, she got burned rather badly.  If you've ever been burned, it hurts quite a lot.

I think this was a good overall episode.  I wonder if Jeong Jeong will be the one Aang seeks out to teach him firebending...
