THis is a must-have item. I can't wait! I've been all over Dark Horse's website, and checked Amazon, and no mention of this in either of them. This is confirmed, right??

By both rufftoon and Dave Roman. I'm guessing the solicitations were just sent out, so the vendors don't have it up yet. Dark Horse itself usually doesn't update these type of things right away.

Ahhhh. There it is finally
Since this is a merchandise item, I'm moving this to the merchandise area. This is something we have all wanted for a long time! Finally, one of the things fans really wanted! Lets see if a Katara action figure and an Original Animated Series Soundtrack comes next! <3

Maybe if this item sells a lot, they'll consider doing a soundtrack? Not sure about the Katara action figure -- didn't they stop making the action figures altogether? Still, it'd be awesome if they do release a soundtrack and maybe Katara/Toph/Azula action figures too later on! But for now we can squee over the art book

I squeed when I saw this. Seriously. OMG. This is EPIC. My sis and I have already decided to split it so neither one of us has to spend $35 bucks on XD (not that I wouldn't spend the $35 if I HAD to, I just don't HAVE to ).

I can't believe what we've all been wishing for has actually come to be. I'm really looking forward to this book. I just preordered mine on amazon.ca. Of course, we Canadians have to pay $43.99.

So, can we speculate about what will be in the book? I've never bought an art book before (let alone one for a tv show), so I don't know exactly what to expect.
Early character sketches will be there, I imagine. Background paintings too, I guess (which would be AWESOME). Will there be storyboards too? I'm thinking of the whole "Zuko finding Ursa" thing that was supposedly storyboarded for the finale and then scrapped. They wouldn't just throw away those storyboards, right? Maybe they're in this book!

If they actually hope to do something with that concept though, I very much doubt they would spoil it in the book.
I mean, what we've heard of that doesn't sound like it actually had much story to it, but still.

Ahh, good point.
But it could also go the other way around -- that if they're planning on using that as a sequel hook, they could show those storyboards and caption them with something like "Here's a preview of something from the next Avatar series", or something along those lines. Not that I think there'll be a new Avatar series any time soon, but you know what I mean.

I've not really bought artbooks before, but in my past Anime days I've picked up and looked through several little Naruto books. If anything you can expect to see a lot of pretty backgrounds from the series. Full profiles of the characters, perhaps...I don't know. I do recall seeing them in the Naruto book, but meh. Naruto =/= Avatar. And probably some concept artwork, and still footage from the series. But that's just my opinion.

I just preordered mine on amazon.ca. Of course, we Canadians have to pay $43.99. I'm surprised publishers are still charging Canadians more for books. Given the crappy value of the US dollar, it's barely worth more than Canadian currency (not implying that Canadian money has no value, mind you, it's just that up until fairly recently, a Canadian dollar was only worth about 60 to 70 US cents). I ran the US price for the book through a currency converter, and it says the cost is $36.04 Canadian. You might want to order it from Amazon US. I oder dvd's from Amazon UK all the time, so I know it will work.

It's so awesome that everyone's so excited about the book and everyone wants it Hopefully it sells well and that sends a message to Nick that we want Avatar stuff.

Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Art of the Animated Series chronicles the show's development — from the very first sketch through to the series finale and beyond. This quote gives me so much hope, it makes me tearbend! "Beyond" could be a lot of things. It could be stuff that's forthcoming, it could be concept art they did for the movie (as a "bonus" to the show-centric nature of the book), it could be last year's SDCC poster. Speaking of poster art, I really hope they have all of them in there. I've always lamented not having a "Lost Appa" poster.

But remember, I still have to pay an import duty, Canadian taxes and the Visa people always screw you on the exchange rate too. But thanks! Yikes, the price on amazon.ca just dropped to $22.93. That's a lot better.
