Never miss a good chance to shut up.

« on: Jun 28, 2009 09:29 am »

Hello friends;
I have been reading your wonderful forums and I was surprised to see so many entries speculation on my mind set motivations and attitudes so decided to post here for the fans to set the record straight. I hope this is the right place ot do it.

Here is one of the first I saw:
"And Sifu Kisu just hates all Hollywood in general (and i'm sure he has his reasons)."

Not true. I do not use the word hate or indulge emotions associated. I operate under the thoughts of Compassion and Empathy.
Hollywood and the Entertainment business is a complicated industry and I salute the individuals that have chosen to pursue careers there. I am not a entertainment professional, I am a instructor of Traditional Chinese Martial Arts. The creators of the show are my martial art students who'd asked me if I could lend consultation toward the success of their project. The end result?
Our team produce some never before seen coolness.

Rumor of this may have stemmed for some postings made on a martial art forum where a former student took it on himself to "explain" my "situation" as related to the new movie. He was misinformed and grossly exaggerated some "he said she said" hearsay.

As for my role in The Last Airbender, Bryan and I consulted early on in preproduction to generated some research footage related to what he'd like to see in the martial art/ Bending interactions for the director. After this I moved on to other projects leaving behind our six years of good relations on an amazing collaborative effort. No hate to speak of.

Another post I saw suggested I had some opinions about the race of the characters chosen for the live action show.

Not true. Although Aang and friends were inspired from multiethnic peoples one of which was my son Arjuna (multiethnic) who was part of the inspiration for Aang way back when he was just 6 years old in the early preproduction phases. I understand some of the fans have strong opinions about who should be cast but that job is taken.
Personally I believe the choice to be up to the director and producers for a very simple reason. A movie studio does tons of research costing untold amounts of money to develop profiles, projections and models that will hopefully help lead to a successful film production experience.

The characters selected who will populate the show's world along with their complex interrelationships help drive the story arc along. It's a tedious process of selection and rejection performed by hard nosed experts.

I feel the most important aspect of this part is the fact that the studio is willing to risk over $150 million of their dollars to bring this production to the old fans of the animated series as well as new fans who have yet to hear of it. Color IMHO is nothing since we are all one people and the director is a powerful creative talent so we should trust him to delight and surprise us with his extraordinary vision.

There was another mention that was not clear to me about me having made negative "racial statements".
No not true.

Another

"Maybe Sifu Kisu just disapproves of the movie completely. Like, nothing the movie can do can make him look forward to it or something. That doesn't mean the movie's gonna suck."

Wrong! Again speculation from a source who has never met me. I can't wait to see the film. I'm the ultimate fanboy when it comes to this property. The special effects will knock your socks off and they have a great cast of talented actors as well as and experienced professional crew. The Director chose this as a his own pet project and I expect to see that passion right there on the big screen!

Sifu Kisu is pretty bitter in general. XD Or do people forget his tantrum over a post on a LiveJournal community?

This person does not know me, has never met me and is absolutely unqualified to make such a statement. Before anyone says it NO I'M NOT ANGRY LOL! It made me so sad that people who never saw the original post passed this along in viscous ever exponential gossip. Someone said Kisu hates Hollywood? Well I sure did not enjoy this aspect of it.....
In response:
I never had a "tantrum" over at "Live Journal" this is so untrue. (Plus would it were I ever had a tantrum words would be a small worry LOL!!)

Someone posted a fan fic with Mike, Bryan and myself as characters in a scenario featuring gay interactions between the three of us while working. Excuse me? Lulz??? What if this playful gossip came back to one of our family members creating painful conflict?

Since I was both amused and offended at the time I copied and pasted the story into my personal blog stating that the thoughtless author was perhaps a "retard and or moron" not realizing how offensive these words might be to some people. I was shocked by the thoughtlessness of it all. Gay people are not my enemies nor do I choose that type of life style for self.

After all this the collective "Everyone" who ever they might be were so so offended.

It was called "epic lulz" that I "pulled a Kisu" that I "went berserk". "Everyone" thought all of this was so cute, that i shouldn't take the internet so serious. Completely forgetting the inciting incident the internet took ME serious apparently.

Now two wrongs never make a right and my choice of words were poor. I was never angry, never berserk. This whole affair was from my perspective shocking, hateful and callous. After all of our hard work and sacrifice on the show, our oh so loving fans rewarded us with childish disrespect? We were sad. The young lady who wrote the thing contacted me and apologized as did I and we were done.

I can't think of anyone thing else to write. I just hope my posting here can dispel confusion.

My name is Kisu

You're Sifu Kisu?

Wow, that's awesome!  (If that's true and you're not some n00b posing as him)

Thanks for clearing up some of those issues.  I knew nobody could outright hate the film industry.

Sifu Kisu quoted me... Sifu Kisu quoted me... (am i even allowed to say "Sifu", or should i say just "Kisu"?).

Now i'm feeling flattered and embarrassed at the same time.

Sorry for saying that you "hate" Hollywood. Now i seeing how wrong i was, i apologize.

Oh, and i am very glad that you voiced your opinion on the matter. I was quite ticked too to see your few words "bent" to form something that pleases only 1 side, and i agree that the whole speculation made by certain part of a fandom gone way overboard. Also i hope that this new statement won't divert fans from you or create even more speculating and conspiracy theories that you've been "made" to do it (unfortunately i can totally see that happening).

Ok, now i'm going to follow your advice under the avatar and will shut up now. Cheesy

No need to be embarrassed my friend. This was the first time in my life being exposed to fans of a TV series and I must say as with most things in life it was bitter sweet. I've only decided to speak up recently in support of the feature film. If you've never made a movie or been involved in a professional production it is nearly impossible to understand. For instance you could work for years arranging all of the critical elements for a show and sacrifice everything while you're doing your triple best. It goes to screen and NO ONE LIKES it yelling It SUCKS.
Heartbreak! It's about timing, vision, preparation, opportunity and execution. If any one of these elements falls out of harmony disaster.

From it's brilliancy all is illuminated.

I've never even heard of any of these rumors, but assuming you are who you say you are, I find it very cool that you posted here.

This is the only thing I disagree with you on. Frankly, I wouldn't trust Shamalan to park my car (and I don't even have a car). But, hey it's not my film, and not my call. Hopefully, with such awesome source material, he can manage to direct his first good film.

Anyway, there is something I wonder. Are you involved with the live-action movies at all?

(I certainly hope you don't mind me asking.)

Sir, I must admit that I first doubted you were who you claimed to be. (chalk this skepticism up to my being relatively new here, and the general mistrust one accrues about other over the internet.) I, being devoid of rest due to insomnia and therefor probably not entierly of sound mind, proceeded to check up on your DA and youtube pages, as well as doing several keyword searches on that one and only Google.

I've concluded that the chances of someone willing to go through such lengths to impersonate a real person over the internet at this level of magnitude are slim to none, and I therefore offer you my humblest of apologies for ever doubting your identity or integrity. Please except.

and might I say, that your views on the movie are pleasantly refreshing. It's good to know that there are people tied to the original project who are just as excited about seeing it's story translated into a new medium as we fans are. At least now I can rest easy knowing that all my anticipation isn't misplaced. Wink

once again, thank you for stopping by and clearing up these misconceptions, and thank you for just being your generally awesome self.

cheers, flamehead.

Our style has 18 weapons long short heavy light flexible and rigid.
Zuko's Double broad Sword and Jet's Double Hooks were adapted after BK learned the practice sets and became enamored with them.

Ah, I always wondered if Kisu would return to ASN!

Thanks for all your hard work on the show. It is, from start to finish, fantastic. I do hope you haven't been completely soured on the show's fans, because it is definitely an honor to have you posting with us.

And it is certainly interesting to hear someone who worked on the source material express their opinion (any opinion, good or bad) on the upcoming movies. It gives fans some perspective on how the authors (not just Mike and Bryan, the whole crew) feel the story and characters should be portrayed.

Wow so critical of the director? How many feature films have you directed so far? LOL!

LOL Well, that would be none. In fact if I was another director, I wouldn't say anything bad about him out of professional courtesy. Wink

Anyway, I'm hoping to someday make it as an independent animated film director, and comic book writer. And, I'm sure there will be plenty of people saying I suck, too. I look forward to it and find the idea amusing.

As for Shyamalan, I have to call it as I see it. I think his films are lame attempts to be the next Rod Serling and/or Alfred Hitchcock, and fall short of that mark. And, that wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't that horrible documentary on Starz that was just a big "Shyamalan ego trip" where he kept talking about what a genius he was, while promising to show us an "exclusive short film" that turned out to be a goddamned credit card commercial (that I saw a million times already).

After that I was like "screw this guy". Roll Eyes

If the movie turns out awesome, all is forgiven.

Unless, there's another "suck up to Shyamalan-a-thon" on Starz. Then, it's back to "screw this guy".

And so cynical? If I'm who I say I am? I love it!
Is there another lokhopkuen here?

Well, sorry about that. I'm new here, and I wasn't sure. You can't be too careful on the internet, people impersonate other people all the time. Once, I was a frequent poster on a TMNT forum, and someone posted claiming to be Kevin Eastman (one of my heroes).

We ended up having to ask Kevin at the HM forums (who we know is the real Kevin Eastman) to clear it up.

Having just checked your site and read what everyone else said I totally believe you. And, I think it's awesome to be communicating with someone involved in such a wonderful show.

As far as the movies and working on them?  No.

I'm a little disappointed, but hopefully they'll book some top-notch fight choreographer.

If Bry n MiK do another Avatar and asked me to help?
Yea I would.
I respect and trust them and they are interested in true martial essence.

That would be fantastic!

Media work is too self absorbed, petty and fueled by greed.
Once you get a taste you are hooked then when you come back begging for more the own you.

That's probably very true. That's why I'd rather be into independent media. Even if there's much less money (if any), and audience, it would still beat being a studio/network slave.

i'm good

You certainly are, I checked out your site and was quite impressed. It's too bad I live in the other end of the country. I don't suppose you've caught word of any good Tai Chi Chuan schools in PA, have you?
