Overall, not bed. Appa isn't normally the kind of character you base an entire episode arround, but overal it was actually pretty good. And I can"t help but wonder if the old man at the temple is another surviving air nomad.
Well, he has been lost for several weeks, so it was really awesome how they showed where he'd been. They wouldn't want us to worry about him, would they? lol

LOL, I guess not. They took a character that normally would not be the kind you base an episode arround and made it work. You can' t help but feel sorry for Appa in this spisode. And the flashbacks were great.

This episode was so great at summarizing the past few episodes into one. From the sandrider, to Iroh on the boat, to the panther-cat sitting on the roof as Appa got kidnapped. I'm going to give this episode a 9 out of 10. Even though in a way I'd have to call it a "filler", it was great. Smiley

It was overall a pretty good episode, although I was a little disappointed at yet another filler episode.

Ha, maybe Ty Lee and Suki are going to fight over Sokka now that Suki might be captured Wink

Forgive me if someone has already posted about this;
Since Appa was in the circus, and had his bad experience with fire, it seemed that he had grown afraid of it. When he saw the lady with her torch, even that small bit of fire frightneded him. This may lead to a problem, considering that his master is fighting the fire nation. What if while he was flying and is fired at, Appa begins freaking out?

And by the way....BABY APPA! Awww, he was so cute!(and still is)

that was an amazing episode, all the little things you see, like iroh on the ship and sokka and katara's dad.

When I saw that one guy on the deck, I immediately thought about S and K's father, but was that really him?

This was so amazing. I really wanted to learn more about the eastern air temple because of my female airbender fanfic im making... ah well... goodie!

Yea, I think this episode answers some of the questions that either Isaia or crazy Kimchee on deviantart were pondering about with regards to Original Characters:  Female Airbenders DO exist, they DON'T need to shave their heads (although that might be a matter of personal taste based on the time she spent as a master and teacher at the temple), and they DO get arrows.

Sweetness.

Everyone is entitled to rate any episode according to how much they liked or disliked it. If some troll joins a forum just give episodes the 1 rating, just ignore it. It's not worth discussing.

now that I think about it, it was also good to see confirmation that Toph did hear Gashium tell the other sandbenders to muzzle Appa (and that they didn't manage to do it). She said as much in The Desert, but it wasn't shown in the library.

How are people saying this was a filler ep? It was obviusly important to the story and adds a great depth to a few characters.

Also am I the only one who sees a problem when Aang begins to firebend?

Also, who(or should I say, What Spirit) do you guys think that one guy was in the air temple? He has to be someone important.

Wow... Was it just me or did that guy teleport appa. Becasue he was asleep in the temple and then suddenly he was flying over Ba Sing Se with his eyes closed. I definitely think that guy was an Air Nomad, making him an Air Bender. (All Air Nomad's were benders.) Cute little baby Appa!!!!!

My squee-worthy notes:

1_Sokka and Katara's dad! (Or what we ASSUME was their dad, anyway)
2_That one brief little Zuko/Iroh scene. Sleepy Zuko!
3_Lil' Aang and Appa (coming soon to a toystore near YOU!)
4_Zuko has, apparently, been cloned...
5_Long Feng!!! is my father!
6_Azula. Nuff said, yo.

...perhaps more later.

Well its more of a filler ish thing as this episode does seem to have its own domain, and I KNOW many others might cry all out filler on this.
But yeh it was a tad of a filler episode, but a very good one in my mind.

A true 10 worthy episode.  Why?

1. So many elements tied together and explained.
-Sokka and Katara's dad finally apears after over half a season.
-We get to see Suki again.
-The foot print makes sense now.
-Its sad how many times he almost ran into the Gaang.
-Why there was a Sand Glider buried in the sand anyway.
2. The fight between Ozai's angels and the Kyoshi warriors was friggen aswome.  And while Ozai's Angels dominated (but they can challange aang, and the KW had trouble with Zuko's goons, so it makes snes) they really showed a massive improvement in skill.
3. The Kyoshi Warriors aren't clones anymore-yeah!!!
4. I also enjoyed boar-g-pine vs Appa.  Our first animal fight I beleive-col.
5. Good or bad, I liked the personalities of all the people Appa met. Very unique.
6. Long Feng is now my favorite villan of the series.
7. Iroh hid Appa from Zuko-interesting.
8. We saw how airbenders bind with bison-neat.
9. Baby Appa-cute.  Kinda looked like a shrimp though.
10. Pre-arrow Aang.  I thought he was a girl at first-but I was expecting it to be a girl temple, and little kids tend to be hard to tell apart.  Also good to see a female airbender-other than a hard to make out the details avatar.

How are people saying this was a filler ep? It was obviusly important to the story and adds a great depth to a few characters.

Yes, it added depth to characters, but it didn't advance the story.  It only covered ground that has already been covered, from another angle.  I think that qualifies as Filler.  GOOD filler, EXTREMELY good and amusing, entertaining, enlightening filler, but filler nonetheless.

Edit:  After reading some more posts, I felt the need to clarify my thoughts.  Just because there were very important issues that took place during the episode doesn't mean the episode wasn't filler.  It filled the blanks left in the previously aired episodes.  In this case, filler doesn't have the usual negative connotation.

Wow... Was it just me or did that guy teleport appa. Becasue he was asleep in the temple and then suddenly he was flying over Ba Sing Se with his eyes closed. I definitely think that guy was an Air Nomad, making him an Air Bender. (All Air Nomad's were benders.)

There is no proof that all air nomads were airbenders.  Conjecture on this matter is kinda meaningless until there is a definate act of some sort, one way or another.  The guru did not exhibit any air bending, only psychic abilities and acrobatics.  Which are not airbending.

Fun debate, though.

See i thought he was an earth bender guru guy?

BUT I love iroh so him being in there just made life better.

And did ANYONE get the name of the guru?

"Guru Padik" or "Patik" or "Patick" or "Padic" or something along those lines.  That's what it sounds like.
