It was an OK episode, but the two bickering tribes just drove me nuts for some reason. I guess they were there so that Aang could end their little feud thus emphasizing the Avatar's duty to maintain the balance of the world, but it would have been a much more watchable episode without them.

This was one of those episodes that could have been taken out of the series without affecting the plot. The action scene with the spiders could have been better though

I didn't like this episode. I don't even get why it was included in the story. It was pretty weird.

Yup, this was one bad, throwaway episode.  Today's airing on Nick was only the second time I've ever seen it.  I forgot that they were going to Ba Sing Se.  Now I am going to have to rewatch the "Ba Sing Se episodes" of Season 2 and see if I can find any of the Zhangs or Gan Jins skulking around in the background.   Cheesy

One thing that especially bothered me about this episode: when the Canyon Guide breaks his arms, he says he can no longer bend.  But he's still got both his legs.  Bumi can bend with his frickin' chin.  Yeah, I know, Bumi is a master, but you'd think the CG (who seems to be a pretty capable bender himself) would at least be able to kick a few rocks around... Huh Tongue

And why did he break his arms specifically? It seems kind of awkward when after being hurled to the ground with the force, the spine, ribs, or legs didn't break instead.

I think it was just a convience to break his arms for the story line.  I think he landed on one of his arms and that would make sense, but both not so much.

it was just ok
but i know in every episode there is a reason why they aired it for example
like the northen air temple not much of an episode but at the end war minister quin found the baloon thing (possibly will show up at season 3)
so what's the point for this episode?
the ganjins and the (forgot whats the name) sai they are headed to ba sing se so that does mean we will see them again??

The other group were the Jengs. This episode was ok to me too, but I saw this episode at least 8-10 times, and it gets duller everytime.

This was probably the worst Avatar episode ever.
How is it that two groups which have been rivals for so long take the word of a twelve year old boy about what happened?
Other than that, certain parts were awkward, and I just couldn't take this episode.
Plus, the animation of this episode wasn't all that good. The characters looked a little off.

Is that...egg custard in that tart?

Well, folks, since I've decided to watch every episode up to the Book 3 premier, I might as well review them.
Tonight's episode was The Great Divide, an unnecessary yet enjoyable episode for me. This was one of those episodes that really didn't have any storyline significance, but was a good episode nonetheless. I feel that while this episode didn't give us any storyline significance, it still showed us some of Aang's frustration with his "job". My personal favorite moments from this episode includes the Aang quote, "Is that...egg custard in that tart?" What got me with that were Aang's "Bambi" eyes.
So, while it may be a filler episode, it wasn't bad.

Not the best, but certainly not the worst! The canyon crawlers looked awesome, but it kinda seemed like a filler to me, but hey, only Avatar could make a filler this enjoyable

Probably the most filler-ish episode of Avatar. It was the first I saw of Avatar and although it didn't go all-out impressive, I have to thank it for introducing me to this show!  Cheesy
The weapons of the two tribes were quite nice by the way...

I thought it was an episode good for the little kiddies. Also, it was the first episode of avatar ever to have chibi characters! Grin

I thought it was like a challenge for Aang, just a small one though...I guess you could say it prepared him for later?Huh Huh

I didn't like this eppie. It shows two tribes conflicting.
But I also like the part where Aang sees the food

I rated this episode a 1 out of 10 only because it didn't really make the plot of the show that much greater. it shows that Aang can get though almost anything an is a little creative when it comes to some things. this episode was great when i first seen it, but after that, it got really boring and not worth the watch again Smiley

This was not one of my fave eps.  It was kind of repetitive, with both tribes angrily spouting about their differences.

And, they both took food into the canyon when the guide told them not to!

Although I can see why this episode may not be everyone's fave, I certainly don't think it was that bad. I thought the history between the two tribes was interesting, and I always like a good rivalry.  Yet, I too wondered how the two tribes could just trust Aang and forget the past. It's a little awkward.
