avatardestiny! I just read all your fics, and I gotta say, you amaze me with your talent. Reading all of your fics in a row didn't bore me at all, it was entertaining!! You know what's funny? When I read the first page, I was thinking, "Wow, I'm going to request about Maiko before the Agni Kai accident" and when I read the second page, I was surprised to see it there already. Cheesy You're so good at writing Maiko (only e few writers can write Maiko well, you're one of them!) , and Sukka too. I'm usually not too fond of Sukka, but I think reading your fics changed my mind.

Can I request? I would like to read Child!Maiko fic! Please....

Anyway, you're one of the best writers here on ASN. Thumbs up!!

We are more than the sum of our parts...

*whew*  Glad I was able to pull off the emotions I was trying to convey. Grin  Don't feel at all bad if you didn't understand the setting or premise of the "Apology" fic, I did that on purpose.  The point was that this same scenario had been repeated multiple times between Sokka and Suki, and that no matter what the actual arguement was about, it would play out the same way.

Ok, I know last posts' Maiko one-shot was pretty sad.  It was even sad to write, even if it was powerful and true.  So I started thinking...that was the beginning of Maiko, sort of.  But then there was the end...which was very different.  So then I wrote this.  Yes, it's fluff, but who doesn't like fluff sometimes? Wink  (Notice how I used a synonym of the previous Maiko title for this one.)

Spectator

She eased her head around the doorway, careful to move slowly so she didn't draw attention to herself.  Her dark eyes took in the scene before her, gleaming softly in the sunlight streaming between the columns of the outdoor pavilion.
He winced, moving his arm stiffly as he tried to maneuver the soft red and gold garment onto his arm.  He grunted softly, moving as slowly as possible so he didn't strain his torso.  She heard him sigh with frustration, wiggling his shoulders and arms in strange contortions in his attempt to get dressed.
Mai couldn't stop the smile that abruptly curved her mouth.  He looked so different than the last time she'd seen him, his face contorted with sorrow and pain as he'd looked down at her from the gondola, baffled by her actions.  And now here he was, struggling gamely with the robes that denoted one of the highest positions that could be achieved in the world.  But the look on his face...it reminded her irresistibly of the Zuko she thought she'd never see again.  It was nervous, yes, but there was no pain or sorrow to harden the lines of it, no conflict to cloud his gold eyes.
   He was at peace.
Well, she thought with dry humor, watching him tilt his body sideways, still vainly trying to insert his arm into the sleeve, almost at peace
Finally, she couldn't stand it anymore.  She had to see how she would be received.  And he was just too foolish looking, struggling with his robes.  So she took a deep breath and stepped into the doorway.
"Need some help?"  No one watching or listening would have known that she had to work to keep her voice steady.  At least the slight smile that crossed her face was completely natural and real.
   "Mai."
Her heart skipped suddenly.  Her stomach gave a strange, unexpected swoop.  His voice...she couldn't remember the last time she'd heard him sound so relieved, so happy, so...good.  Because of her.  She met his eyes carefully, feeling a bit unbalanced.  So much for being completely calm about this.
His face was positively alight.  His gold eyes were glowing in a way that she hadn't seen since...she couldn't even say.  They were wide with disbelief and happiness mingled, his dark hair falling across his forehead, his arms frozen comically halfway into the robe's sleeves.
When they'd met in prison, she hadn't had time to process the change in him.  But there it was, wonderful and real and obvious.  He looked like a weight had been lifted from him.  Even as a child and a teenager, she had never seen this in him.
Betraying his nation, joining the Avatar, had altered him.  It had given him peace.  It had shown him his destiny.  A part of her had known that he'd never be at rest until he had found that path...and now he had.
"How did you get out of prison?"  There was a subtle note of guilt in his voice.
"Oh, my uncle pulled a few strings.  It also helps when the new Fire Lord's your boyfriend."  She made it sound casual.  She didn't need to go into the days she'd spent wondering whether or not she would ever escape, whether Zuko was dead or not.  And the use of the word "boyfriend"...she hoped he caught onto and accepted that apology, so he would know how she felt, at least.
She came around behind him, taking pity on his stiff struggles with his garments.  With the ease of practice that came of sometimes helping her mother dress, she took the back of the robe and slid it over his shoulders, holding the sleeve out so that he could push his arm inside.  She couldn't help feeling a slight tingle down her spine as her fingers brushed his warm skin.  With a few twitches of the fabric, she settled the cloth over him and reached around his waist to tie the sash, being careful of the white bandages that wrapped his torso.  It felt better than she had remembered, being close to him.  She almost felt his surprise that she was being so easily familiar with him.
"So, does this mean you're not mad at me?"  Oh yes, she heard the hopeful note in his voice.  Zuko, you idiot, she thought affectionately.  Would I be here doing this if I was mad at you?
She turned so she was facing him, her hands pulling the collar snugly around his neck.  She left them there, resting on his chest.  Aloud, she said, "It means, I think I kind of...like you."
She had never told him that before.  She had shown him, certainly.  But she had never admitted it to him in words.  She felt herself blushing even saying it.
The look on his face was worth it.
It happened before she could plan it, before she could even see it coming.  But somehow, it was so natural that she wouldn't have ever thought to stop it.
His hand slid over her shoulders and pulled her close, her hands went around his neck, fingers brushing his soft hair.  He angled his head at the same moment she tilted hers, and their lips met at the exact same moment.
It wasn't the first kiss they had ever shared, not by a long shot.  But never had one of their kisses reached straight down into her and lightened every inch of her body.
   It was a beginning.
She wanted to laugh at the foolish grin on his face.  He was so happy...she hadn't believed it was possible for him to be this happy.  And over her.
But she wasn't going to let him get off that easily.  Certain things did have to be established.
"But don't ever break up with me again."  She punctuated that with a firm finger jabbed into his chest.  It was difficult to affect a look of mock fierceness when she felt so amazing inside, but she managed.  And his nervous, guilty look was very satisfying.
Mai decided that was enough teasing for one day.  She put her arms around him again, and let herself be drawn against his chest, where he held her firmly, the cloth of his Fire Lord robe soft and smooth.
Mai closed her eyes as she leaned into him, feeling his cheek rest gently against her hair.  Something on her face felt...odd.  That was when she realized that she was smiling, her first real, carefree smile in a long time.  But after all, they had both come a long way for this, in more ways that one.
Mai hoped no one asked them to move anytime soon.

*And here's the Sukka request for posncobending. Grin  Hope I did OK.

Leavetaking

"Whoa, hold on...why does it sound like you're saying goodbye?"
The soft surprise in his voice made her wince a little, so she was glad she had the reflex to suppress it.  For a moment, she entertained the thought of staying with him.  But no.  The memory of his pain was with her still, his abrupt drawback.  She confused him.  He confused her.  It all made her feel very off balance, a feeling she couldn't quite come to terms with.
But at least she had a better excuse than admitting that to him.  "I came along because I wanted to make sure you got through the Serpent's Pass safely. But now I need to get back to the other Kyoshi Warriors."  And it was true enough.  He does need watching, sometimes, she thought to herself with wry humor, remembering his expression when he had watched her plunge fully-clothed after Toph.
"So you came along to protect me?"
She almost laughed.  He's so shocked.  It honestly never occurred to him, did it?  Well, at least I managed to knock off a bit more of his sexism then.
He looked so funny and awkward standing there, that suddenly she felt the words come to her of their own volition.
"Listen, I'm really sorry about last night..."  Why on earth are you bringing this up?  Why couldn't you just have let it go?  Why remind him...why remind yourself?
But she had to follow that opener up somehow.  The problem was, she had no idea how.  So she found herself just babbling, quite uncharacteristically, trying to communicate some at least some sort of complete thought.  "We were talking, and saying things..."  Oh brilliant.  Of course you were saying things, you idiot.  You are making no sense, and it's embarrassing.  She railed mentally at herself.  "I just got carried away..."  You mean like you're doing now?   "And before I knew it I..."  You need to stop this quick, you need to forget how you felt, how you're feeling now...
             And then...
It took several moments for her frozen mind to register what was happening.
He had...kissed her?  Was kissing her?
Yes...he was close.  Very close.  And his mouth was soft, gentle, unhurried.  She was still too stunned to respond.  Emotions pounded through her faster than she could catalogue them.
"You talk too much."  His eyes were lazy, half-closed, but warm.   She felt a shiver down her spine at the tone of his voice.  It was almost tender.  And just a little amused.
He was absolutely right.  At the moment, talking seemed very overrated.
When he leaned in to kiss her again, she was ready.  This time, it seemed perfectly natural to slip her arms around his shoulders and tell him goodbye properly.  She didn't know what had changed from last night.  But something obviously had, because there was no pain or hesitation about him now.
Sokka.  Her Sokka now, maybe.  Goofy, overprotective, loyal, tactless, warm, caring.  Not quite the same boy who she'd tied to a pole a few months ago.
She really did have to return to the Kyoshi Warriors.  And she knew just as surely that Sokka's place was with Aang.
But at least now she had something to look forward to the next time they met.

*Next time...some Kataang! *gasp* Wink

Not many people could pull off realistic fluff from Mai's point of view, but you did it! You made her struggle a bit with controlling her emotions without making her out of character. Good job! Smiley I think my favorite detail was her struggling to put on a fierce face. Cheesy Oh how the tables have turned.

Yay, my idea went up.  You did great, it worked with the scene (I rewatched it right after I read yours) and really let the reader (me in this case) know what Suki was feeling.  Great job.

You really do have a way with Mai.  Most stories I read have her actually sound boring inside or bad at hiding her feelings and they really never capture the character, but yours just screams "Mai".  Follows the scene perfectly as well.

Maiko: Fluffiness. Great job, I loved it. Captured the moment of love perfectly!

Sukka: Yay, that was so bittersweet. Everything a goodbye kiss should be... especially since Sokka turned Suki down the night before. Darn you Sokka (again)!!

Maiko : How sweet.. We know that Mai longed to see Zuko, but knowing she tried to hide her happiness.. Well, now she can't, and you made that scene more beautiful to me. Yay! Cheesy

Sukka : Again, you made me fall in love with Sukka. LOL, Suki can be so awkward sometimes.

Can't wait for the Kataang. And again you said we'll have Kataang next time when I was about to ask for it. Makes me wonder, can you read minds? Cheesy

*Yayz for comments!  I'm especially happy to hear that I pulled off Mai...I think I'm getting more confident about writing her.  And I'm becoming attached to her...*hugs Mai*
Mai: OK, I don't care how well you write fics about me...no hugging.
Heh heh. Grin  Anyway, here's some Kataang.  It's not my favorite pairing, but I can't deny it's canon.  I don't write Kataang as often, so feedback is appreciated.  And this time, I balanced the comedy and angst.

Anchor

He felt the rage rise up in him, stronger than normal.  By now, he was learning to recognize the difference between his own anger and the torrent of fury that broke all boundaries that he hopelessly tried to erect.
He knew when it was happening.  As it was happening now.
The terrified cries of the sandbenders echoed in his ears, as if from far away.  He could hear them pleading, apologizing.  But they were not sorry...they were just afraid.  There was no real remorse in the pleading.
How could they ever have taken Appa from him?  How could they take his oldest friend and treat him as if he were an object, to be sold to the highest bidder?
Memories flashed through his rapidly clouding brain; Appa cocking his head to look up at him with innocent brown eyes, the moist tongue lifting the apple gently from his palm.  The slow, undulating power of the bison beneath him as he flew, the low moans that actually had meaning to them when you paid enough attention.  The loyalty.  The friendship.  The one single presence that had been with him since before he had worn his airbending master's tattoos.  The one single creature who was his friend and guardian and guide.  For life.  Gone.
He hardly noticed when his feet left the ground.  The fearful yells of the sandbenders were receding behind the whirling roar that filled his ears and pounded in his head.  They were not sorry.
   He'd show them sorry.
A thousand lives, a thousand lifetimes of power boiled up from somewhere deep inside him, filling every inch of his skin until it felt like he could hold no more.  His vision misted over, blazing with light.  Against the light, images were flashing almost too fast to see, images of the past and present.  And images of Appa, there to fuel his fury until there was no other outlet for him to send it except at the sandbenders.  He did not stop to consider who else could be hurt, or what the consequences might be.  He could not rationalize that far.
Calm was a word he no longer understood.
He sucked in a breath, ready to unleash it all, every bit of strength and sound and fury in one devastating attack.
   Touch.
   Someone was touching him.
His first reaction was more anger.  But then the trickle of surprise forced its way through.  Someone was daring to touch him now?  Like this?
The touch became a grip.  And then a pull.
Why listen?  Why stop?  Appa was gone.  Gone.  He wasn't stopping now, not even for—
   Katara.
He felt his eyes widen; his white eyes blinded with light and rage.  Her name pierced straight through him like a shock of water, like a breath of air.  And somehow, with that realization came awareness.
   What am I doing?
The pull was gentle, but firm.  Tender, but strong.  Pulling him down, pulling him back.  Reeling him away from the edge of a cliff, bringing him back to the surface when he was drowning.
An anchor.  Holding him tight; to reality, to emotion, to friendship.  To hope.
He let himself go, he let the fury go.  He sank back down, feeling a kind of terrible, immense relief when the power left him.
She held him when the overwhelming rage gave way to grief.  When the limitless power of the Avatar found its outlet in simple tears, rather than destruction.
She was the only one who would have faced him in the throes of his fury.  The only one who would have risked it all to be his anchor when he needed one most.  The only one who would hold him and understand without speaking that what he needed most now was her arms around him.
He had known that face hovering over him as he woke from the iceberg was special.

*Okay, now this is the first time I've ever written a drabble in this style.  I hope I pulled it off.  It just seemed to fit the subject.  You can probably figure out the flow of the conversation, but as a hint, Katara speaks first and it alternates from there.  It's part of the Kataang wedding series.

Invitation

"So, let's start with the easy ones."

"Sokka?"

"Of course.  He is my brother.  We'll just have to give him certain...restrictions."

"And Toph?"

"Uh-huh.  Definitely.  The two of them together..."

"Yeah...I'll let you handle that."

"Thank you Aang.  Your support is overwhelming."

"Was that sarcasm?"

"No, Aang.  Of course not."

"OK, I'm going to stop trying to tell if that was sarcasm.  Who's next...Zuko?"

"I suppose.  For diplomatic reasons.  He is the Fire Lord."

"And my friend."

"Mine too, Aang.  Of course Zuko's coming."

"That means Mai too."

"Mai's pretty easy to get along with."

"And Suki will come with Sokka."

"Thank the spirits for that.  I'm going to need some female support.  Somehow I don't think I'll get it from Toph."

"I'll be there."

"I know that.  That would be the purpose of the whole thing.  But sometimes girls need other girls."

"Oh, okay.  I guess I understand that.  How about Haru?"

"Um, I don't think Haru would very good female support, Aang."

"NO!  I meant as a wedding guest!"

"Ohhh.  Yeah, why not invite him?"

"And how about Teo, and the Freedom Fighters?"

"They're all our friends.  We might as well gather everyone together.  The Avatar getting married is a pretty big deal."

"How about the swampbenders?"

"Well...maybe not everyone."

"We can make them wear pants."

"Yeah...I'll let you handle that."

"You're hilarious Katara."

"Really?  And Toph said I had no sense of humor."

"Katara, that was sa—...nevermind."

"You know, I never knew getting married was this much work."

"We're just making the guest list.  Hey...could you say that again?"

"What...that getting married is a lot of work?"

"Heh, well, mostly the part where you said the word married."

"Aang...what am I going to do with you?"

"Um, marry me?"

Wow. I finally got around to reading some of your work, and I gotta say two things:

1. I'm mad at myself for waiting so long to read these, and
2. I'm very jealous of your unique talent for writing emotional scenes!!!

The Maiko ones are obviously my favorites, but every story of yours that I've read so far is just amazing. Unlike most other stories, I'm completely dialed into the story, hanging on word for word. Excellent use of details and emotions throughout all of them, and I need you to give me a lesson or two in writing emotionally-charged stories sometime, okay? Wink

Keep up the fantastic writing! Cheesy

The Kataang was great. I must agree on the whole I'm-okay-with-Kataang-its-just-not-my-OTP thing, but nonetheless you made a really great fanfic of them. The first was not as angsty as I suspected, to be honest, but the next one was hilarious. And I am not sarcastic this time. Cheesy

Well done, keep it up (please!)

The end of the The Desert is definitely one of my favorite Kataang scenes, I love reading interpretations of it, and this one was amazing! I especially liked how his thoughts were simple but meaningful, like "Touch" and "Katara," because that's definitely how his mind would be working in that state.

The second one was very amusing. Cheesy I liked the joke about Haru. Grin

Both are really good works.  I don't particularly care much for Kataang so I didn't get into them as much but they were quite good stories that fit the characters well, with the first one being a terrific description.

I did like the Haru joke, though.  That was really great.

*Heh, looks like the Kataang earned me some new readers.  Grin  Thanks to everyone who commented.  Here's the request from iWin (which was a great idea and fun to right).  Sorry it's the only one today, but it's pretty long and I'm going back to school tomorrow (which means more homework and maybe less one-shots  Undecided) And in case someone here doesn't know Latin or isn't familiar with this famous phrase, "Carpe Diem" means "Seize the Day".  I thought it was appropriate. Wink

Carpe Diem

No.  Not again.
That was the one thought that took up every inch of her in that split second.  His face fell away from her, their eyes still locked together.  She wondered if the look of horror on his face was also mirrored on hers.
A part of her wanted desperately to give vent to that horror, to scream at him not to leave her alone.  They were supposed to fight together, stay together.  But yelling wouldn't help anything.  So instead of letting the terrified girl inside her speak, she let the warrior do it instead.
   "Go on!  I'll catch up."
Empty words.  But it didn't matter how empty, as long as they made him go, as long as they made him save himself and Toph.  No more people would die today than absolutely necessary.
It had happened so fast.  No one had told her that war moved so quickly, when from one instant to the next you could be running alongside the person you trusted most, and then be falling away from them faster than you could think.
She turned around on her crumbling piece of zeppelin, feeling so alone that she had to force back the cry of anguish again.  It hadn't been so long ago that she'd felt this way, with her back pressed against the metal of a prison wall...what exactly were the spirits trying to tell her?  That she and Sokka were never supposed to be together?
But then she took a deep breath.  She didn't care what the spirits thought.  She wasn't going to stand here while there was a war going on and wait to die.
You are a Kyoshi Warrior, sworn to honor the memory and ideals of Avatar Kyoshi..  So move, Suki!
There was, as she sometimes taught her students back on Kyoshi Island, a certain mentality to being a warrior.  There was a certain point when you could think with crystal clarity in the midst of total chaos.  And it came to Suki now.
She scanned the sky, which was taking on a tinge of blood red and flaming orange.  She could still see the broken hull of the zeppelin Sokka and Toph were on, drifting drunkenly along the line of airships.
Carrying them further away from her.
Sometimes it was hard to stay in the warrior mentality.  Focus, Suki.
She was focusing so forcefully that she almost missed her opportunity.  One of the zeppelins had lurched out of line in an attempt to escape Sokka's "airship slice".  Now it swept down in a smooth curve toward where she stood on the sinking piece of the shattered hull.  The crew was probably too preoccupied with their interrupted attack to notice her.  And there, dangling from the side of the airship, miraculously, was a rope.
Maybe the spirits didn't hate her after all.

   Climbing a zeppelin was hard
Sure, she'd climbed a vertical steel wall before, at the Boiling Rock prison.  But she'd been motivated then, spurred by the idea of escape and freedom and being among friends again.  And Sokka.
She had that motivation now, of course, perhaps more than ever.  But it was hard to let in those feelings to use as drive without letting them overwhelm her.  It was a balance she had to walk with the utmost care, or she'd be reduced to a hopeless mess.  Which was not what was needed right now.
The metal sheet slipped and grated beneath her sweaty hands.  The tips of her toes scrabbled for purchase on the sloping, curved sides of the huge airship.  The only thing keeping her from falling was the rope she clutched in her right hand.  And her own sheer force of will.
She looked up at the top deck of the zeppelin.  It seemed miles away.  The hand holding the rope was raw, her leg muscles burned with the force of digging her feet against the smooth surface.  It would be so easy to just fall, or to tie herself up with the rope and wait the battle out until it was won or lost.  So easy.
She chanced a look sideways, in the direction of Sokka and Toph's ship.  At first she couldn't see anything around the zeppelin's bulk.  And then the ship swung to the side and she caught a glimpse of two tiny figures, huddled on top the deck of a different ship.  One wearing green, the other blue.
But they were still so far away from her they might as well have been in a different nation.  She watched with a kind of aching sorrow as the two figures stumbled their way across the deck, the blue-clad one dragging his leg.  A dull shot of pain that had nothing to do with physical exhaustion pulsed through her.  Sokka must have gotten hurt.  He looked like his leg was broken.
She saw the soldiers milling on the lower decks, well aware of the two interlopers on their airship.  They were probably only waiting for an opportunity.
That was when the movement of the two figures caught her eye.
She wasn't sure if they slipped, or jumped, or fell.  All she knew was that one moment, she was looking desperately at the Fire Nation soldiers, and the next the two shapes were falling.
For one second, she felt grief and fury so strong that she nearly let go of the rope.  It wasn't fair, that she had to watch them die, clinging to the side of a zeppelin and unable to do a thing to help.  It wasn't fair that the last thing she got to remember of Toph was her proud smile as she drew the iron about herself and leaped into the cockpit to single-handedly defeat the guards.  It wasn't fair that the last thing she knew of Sokka was that look of loss and terror as he was taken away from her again.  It wasn't fair that their last kiss had been so quick, and yet so full of promise for the future.
And then she saw that they had stopped falling.
Sokka was sprawled on a deck protrusion, half his body twisted at a strange angle that Suki could tell was wrong even from this distance.  And Toph, so strong and sure of herself, was hanging from his hand, her body looking small and alone as it swung in space.
They weren't dead yet.  But they would be soon.  Even now, guards were swarming down to their level.
Suki wasn't sure whether she should press her face to the warm metal and try not to see, or watch until the end.  Why, why was it like this?  Why did she have to lose everything so quickly after she had found it again?
I always knew you would come.
She remembered herself saying those words, tears of joy running down her cheeks, his hand pressed solid and warm against her face.  They were so true.  She had lost many kinds of hope alone in the Boiling Rock, but never that one faith.  She honestly had never doubted that someday, no matter how far in the future, he would save her.  He would come.  And then it was as if a new resolve hit her like lightning.
It was time to return the favor.
Suddenly, all the pain vanished.  She couldn't feel a single ache, a single burn.  It had just disappeared.  Or maybe it didn't matter anymore.
Power exploded through her.  She had been trying to suppress her feelings, trying to stay the cool, emotionless warrior.  But again, Sokka had taught her something, so long ago.
   I am a warrior.  But I'm a girl too.
And it was as a Kyoshi Warrior, strong and agile and pledged to the greatest Avatar ever, but also as the girl who loved Sokka of the Water Tribe with all her heart, that Suki seized the rope and began hauling herself up, hand over hand.  Her body worked in an endless rhythm that suddenly seemed as natural as breathing, step and pull, step and pull.
And in what seemed no time at all, she was on the top deck.  Now she needed to think again.  There was no time for triumph in war.
The image of Sokka and Toph clinging together intruded violently into her mind.  She was about to thrust it away, when the reminder of Toph made her remember something.
Toph's extraordinary fingers digging into the airship rudder, pulling it by sheer force into a turn.  Controlling the zeppelin.
Suki whirled around.  Sure enough, there was a sail-like rudder jutting up not twenty feet from her.  But she was no metalbender.
But you are a warrior.  Work with what you've got, Suki.
The rope.  Maybe she couldn't crunch the rudder into a new shape so she could turn the ship.  But she could rig something up so she could steer it.
She found the hook where her climbing rope was anchored and pulled it free.  She spared a precious second to look over the rudder, seeing where she could attach the rope.
There!  If she threw the rope over the edge and tugged it around so she could hold both ends, then by force of pulling she should be able to control it.  Somewhat.  And that would have to be enough.
She was never sure whether it was skill or luck that gave her the accuracy to nail the throw on the first try.  But it seemed like some miracle as she took up the two rope ends in her hands, braced her feet hard against the side of the airship, and leaned all her weight outwards in a tremendous pull.
At first, she thought it was all for nothing.  The rudder didn't budge.  She hurled herself back, legs straining, her knuckles whitening.  For Toph, the brave, blunt earth and metal bender with fire in her opaque eyes.  For Sokka, the grinning, warm-hearted warrior who she couldn't imagine being without.  She clenched her teeth and hauled on the rope with every ounce of strength.
The rudder creaked.  Groaned.  And then it swung in a smooth arc, turned its nose toward Sokka and Toph.
She could have laughed with relief.
But then she saw how they were slipping, how Toph's hand was shaking, wavering.  She saw Sokka twist so he could throw something; his boomerang.  Then he whipped out what looked like his sword, hurling it at the edge of a cable so it snapped and unbalanced the first wave of incoming guards.  He was so brave, fighting to the last, doing everything he could before he went down.
But as long as she was here, he was never going down.
She heard the hopeless sound of his voice echo across the distance between them.  "I don't think boomerang's coming back Toph.  I think this is the end."
   No.  Never, Sokka, never.
She braced her legs hard, waiting for the impact.
It came in a thunderous screeching clash of metal on metal, sending a vibration roaring under her feet.  The whole ship lurched, but she was ready for it.  With a thrill of victory, she saw the guards stumbling and falling, thrown from their positions on the lower deck.  They obviously weren't ready.
She saw Sokka haul Toph up, raising his head.  His expression was twisted with pain and stunned surprise.  She heard Toph's voice, equally bemused and somewhat breathless.  "Did boomerang come back?"
Suki couldn't answer the question.  She was too busy looking at Sokka's face, feeling her face break into a grin of triumph.  The two rope ends were still clutched in her hands.
Sokka answered for her.  His words swept through her, full of awe and pride and gratitude, and she knew that the future was not ended, as she had thought before.  It was only beginning.
   "No...Suki did."

My favorite part was this:
She honestly had never doubted that someday, no matter how far in the future, he would save her.  He would come.  And then it was as if a new resolve hit her like lightning.
It was time to return the favor.

*grumbles jealously about Avatardestiny's amazing talent for writing such detailed and emotionally-driven stories*

Hahaha, you've done it again! You use just enough details to provoke an idea of what that scene was really like, and Suki's behavior and thoughts were spot-on. Oh agni I wish I had your talent for writing such emotional fics!!! That scene almost had me crying in the finale, and this brought back tons of memories of my first time watching the finale. Congrats on another fantastic one-shot! Cheesy

PS: If I may, I have a request....could you try BFF! Mai & Katara? I tried so hard to write a story about their friendship myself, but failed miserably....I think you have what it takes to write a good one though! Grin

A beautifully written,emotion-filled fic. Yet another piece to add to avatatdestiny's growing pile of one-shots. Oh and iwin,I would love to see that in art form.

Ooh that was so exciting, but sad and sweet at the same time! =O
(I guess that pretty much describes Sukka though, yeah? Wink)

The timing threw me off just a little bit, but that's understandable, given that you had to describe a lot of things happening in a short period of time...but I love Suki's train of thoughts through the whole ordeal.

Sukkaaaa! =O
