Just finished. Wow.

Much better plot development than the previous two episodes (which had the stink of filler episodes). Excellent character arc progression on the part of both Jet and Zuko.

R.I.P. Jet's wheat thingie.

Now that was a freaky episode...

Im digging the whole brainwashed "Utopia" idea of the inner city.

Several times throughout the series it has struck me how young the kids are; if they were older, I think this episode would have played out much differently, in that Aang would be more willing to break Ba-Sing-Se's rules and do what is necessary. More thoughts later.

Wow, I'm one of the first to respond. Anyways, I thought it was a little dark how they tried to brainwash Jet in one part. The light, the hypnosis...utopia...although they really are trying to keep the city safe, it really is kind of like the Giver. Isolation really isn't going to solve their problems. I can't wait for the next episode. Anyone know when the next is going to air?

The brainwashing sequence with Jet gave me creepy "Clockwork Orange" vibes. I don't think we will see him for a while...

OH GOD!

Bah Sing Se is an ORWELLIAN NIGHTMARE STATE!!
1984 . . .1984

This episode TERRIFIES me.

I couldn't give this a 10, but MAN was that fight sequence between Jet and Zuko cool.

What happened to that first smiling lady, I wonder?  The secret police (pssh, cultural guard, BS) probably dragged her away.  Uggh, this leads to mind what unsavory things could happen behind closed doors and outside of what is acceptable to show on Nickelodeon . . .

So, wait a minute, if Jet is being brainwashed into thinking there is no war, what will happen to his resentment over the death of his parents/whoever?  That's an interesting thought. . .

this episode made me feel like this: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/40193933/
9_<  No, I didn't do this.  But it really does hit my feelings for the episode perfectly.

The part where zuko cut off the end of this...what is it, wheat? thing of Jet's...haha that was weird.

The ending where there was a new freaky guide...I feel like I missed something =o.

Wow.

Just.

Wow.

Not only do we get to see more of the Earth Kingdom culture, and how class-oriented Ba Sing Se is; we get that awesome Zuko vs. Jet sword-battle, and...

...then we get that shocker of an ending! Brain-washing, re-education, false utopia; this is heavy stuff for a kids' show, but of course, this isn't your every day kids show. Communism!

The shippers are going to go crazy, "what was Katara going to say to Aang after he told her how beautiful she looked?" I'll admit, I dug this little exchange, and then Toph went and became totally awesome, the very image of refinement, "don't talk to the commoners."

That Joo Dee exchange at the very end, that, that scared the bee-jesus out of me. It was terrifying.

"Have you been hitting the cactus juice again?" Any and all mentions of the cactus juice incident are awesome.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to add: I wonder if The gAang will ever see Jet in his new state? As in brainwashed, I mean. What will Katara, as well as Sokka, who hated the guy, think?

Oh wow. What a weird thing! Its like a secret society. I bet that advisor doesnt tell the earth king anything.you'd think they want Aang's help.

Something fishy is going to happen.

I liked how Aang and Sokka were playing, Earth, fire, water, air (I guess it is like Rock, paper, scissors). That was funny.

I was going to say something else but I now I forget. I think I am going through Appa withdrawl. Its sad

I disagree with so many people ranking this episode as a 10. It was a good episode, but not on the top tier of many other episodes. Much better than the last two, but not perfect.

OMG! That fight between Jet and Zuko...I can't talk...must watch it again!!! That was so truly amazing! I feel so sorry for Jet!

How can the gAang possibly stay in Ba Sing Se knowing what is going on there? Now they are fighting against more than just the Fire Nation.

I was very interested to know that Aang never went there when he lived with the Monks. Maybe we will see some more flashbacks from Aang's past. I also think Uncle is going to ask Zuko about his amazing skill with broadswords.

On a light hearted note, Iroh sure knows his tea!

This episode totally freaked me out.. I mean, the creepy smiling lady and the guards. The whole brainwashing Jet part was really creepy too. At least Zuko and Iroh didn't get taken, although I definitly see some problems for them in the future.
I just hope Aang and the group gets the heck out of there, or finds a way to talk to the actual king. Something tells me, if they get to talk to the actual king, he'll be able to fix the crazyness.
Ba Sing Se is really, really, really CREEPY.

asdfghjkl

First matter of the episode- the fight between Jet and Zuko was AMAZING. That was completely perfect. Secondly, I'm so sad right now. I don't love Jets character, but that was so horrible, being taken away like that. Not to mention poor Appa, being threatened like that to Aang. The girls were not pretty in anyway, ew at the makeup. This episode completely creeped me out.

AKA: This was the BEST episode EVER.

When you say a clockwork orange...do you mean the brainwashing? Do you think Jet won't "take" to the brainwashing?

I liked this episode, although I only gave it a 9. It still isn't my favorite, but it was seriously good. May even fall under second favorite...Anyways, what I'm really looking for is some more gAang-Zuko and Iroh interaction.
