That was great.  The funniest part was that he was very calm up to that point.

I just loved his lines in this episode...
"I'm glad this trip turned out to be a total waste of time for EVERYONE!"
His interactions with the pirates...
Pirate leader: "We should probably pull ashore and search the woods."
Zuko: "No need.  They stole a waterbending scroll, right?"
PL: *nods*
Zuko: "Then they'll be on the water."

"I wonder how much this is worth...?" and "You'll regret breaking a deal with me."
oooooo...so authorative...

"MY BOAT!"
heehee

***OH YEAH!  And the laugh.  How could I forget his "haha" moment?!?  It was so good to hear him be (almost) truly happy...for a split second...at the expense of others...
but still, HE LAUGHED!!!

You're absolutely right. I can't decide who has the best lines in thie ep, Zuko or Sokka:
"I'll say. You just "practiced" our supplies down the river!"
"Well, you've pretty much mastered air bending, and that only took you a hundred-and-twelve years..."
"Life was hard enough when you were just an air bender..."
"Oh, what? I'm not good enough to kidnap?"
"WILL YOU TWO QUIT CONGRATULATING EACH OTHER AND HELP ME OUT?!"

It was the coolest when Zuko breathed fire!

I know! I guess we don't want to make someone angry ^^ And one of my favorite parts was when Zuko threatened to burn the waterbending scroll. I edited that screen cap for my friends b-day card and had it say "HA! You'll never make it out of here Avatar without yoyr precious mapquest directions!!"

Also, if any of you have ever been to devianart and saw that "avatar in a nutshell" thing for this eppisode, you'd die! I swear, its so funny!!

What's the link?

Angel of Shadows and I watched this episode at our "Avatar party" the other day (it was just me and her there...lol!)...anyway, when we heard "bleeding hog monkeys!" and then "HA HA HA HAAAA!" ...let's just say you could probably hear our hysterical laughter a block away... Tongue

I watched this episode today, it had been a while since I last saw it.
It had me wondering-what's up with this jewel-eyed monkey statue?

They showed it twice-once when Katara was looking at it, and later, when Iroh was looking at it. Other things that we're seen breifly have come to have greater importance later-the lotus tile, for instance, and Zuko's knife. The camera seemed to linger on it fow a few seconds when Katara was looking at it. I wonder-will we be seeing this statue again, and if so, under what circumstances?

Iroh bought that statue. We see it sitting beside him as he's playing the Sungi horn (also purchased the same day) at the end of The Blue Spirit.

Since the statue was on Zuko's ship when it blew up, it's most likely sitting on the ocean floor and collecting barnacles.  Undecided

I didn't know it was a monkey.
I thought it was a dog!!

And when I watched this episode, I couldn't believe my ears when Zuko laughed. I never thought he COULD laugh!

If by "great zutara moment" you mean Zuko was freaking creepy, then yeah.  Because Zuko was freaking creepy!  I think Zuko is awesome and hot... but when he had katara tied up and was talking to her it gave me the chills!  I was like "no Zuko get away from her!"

Has anyone else noticed that there is a waterfall on the river downstream of where the Gaang was camped out, but Zuko and the Pirates sailed up river from the sea. So... the question is how exactly did the ships get to above the waterfall in the first place.

The only possibility I can see is if the river splits before reaching the sea--rare, but it occasionally happens--and the other branch does not go over a waterfall.

one of my favorite parts of this show is the fact that every bending stye uses real moves from various martial arts; water bending being tai chi. I've studied tai chi and it made me so happy to see the scroll and see moves that I know from the first tai chi form I ever learned.

I will be happy to answer my origional question of the waterfall. I took it into account in my season one map in the Roadmap to avatar thread. it must be that river on the map with the large island. one of the rivers' courses flows over the falls while the other goes a more peacefull way arround. It is easly reconizable on the worldmap.

This episode = born of Zutara.

Katara = Well, Zuzu, if you wanna get a girl's attention tieing them to tree isn't the best way.
Zuko = I weren't trying to subduce you! I were blackmailing! BLACKMAILING!

*Fangirls screams 'ZUTARA, ZUTARA!!!!'

Zuko = Please! Make them go away
Iroh = *pat**pat

This is one of my favorite episodes, mainly because it was just so funny. Mainly due to Iroh's lines, but still. I think my favorite quote from it is one from near the end:

Katara: Aang, this is all my fault.
Aang: No Katara, it isn't.
Iroh: Yeah...it kind of is.

It still makes me laugh every time I see it. Also, the fight at the end is great, there's a nice bit of character development (Aang's waterbending) thrown in for good measure, and all around it makes for a great ep.

Speaking of which. Have you ever noticed how Aang seams to have the least character development in the entire series. Other then maybe his bending. Whats with that.

Aang does grow up a lot, but I see what you mean.  I think they made Aang have a pretty good outlook to start out with so that people in the show will believe in him and follow him.  If Aang acted like Zuko no one who trust the Avatar or ask him for help.  If Aang acted like Zuko, you could kiss mastering all the elements by summers end goodbye.  If Aang acted like Zuko the world would be screwed.  Plus there might be something about the avatar spirit that makes you a little wise for your age.  So aang just started out less defective than the other characters.

come to think of it... yeah, it actually was this episode.  I kinda liked thi episode though, because Iroh made things funnier.  This is what REALLY happened:

*Katara runs away from the pirate, Zuko unexpectedly grabs her*

Zuko: I'll save you from the pirates

Now, this is what zutara FANS heard:

Zuko: I'll save you from the pirates... then marry me!

LOL, ahahahahaha... okay, I'll stop.

but anyway, I liked Iroh's part, "hmmm, maybe I should make it a proverb"
