It's not the only thing I thought of. Remember when Zuko used his sword to trick the sun stone and magicaly open the door? It felt exactly like a dungeon out of Legend of Zelda. I had that chime go off in my head. You know... that little sound that goes off everytime Link solves an elaborate puzzle?

Aang: "Sorry, Sifu Hotman."

Zuko: "And stop calling me that!"

I had to rewind all the way back to the end of this line as I couldn't stop laughing first time I heard it. Was gasping for air in the end.

This and The Headband.

Funniest episodes thus far.

Am I the only one that thinks of the Dragon Ball Z fusion dance when I see this?

I immediately thought of that as well, it seemed hard to miss the second time around when they performed it in front of Ran and Shao's Lair (I'd imagine that the end fusion would result in something similar to the Zuko-Aang of Zuko's nightmare in 2-18).

Nice martial reference to kata as well; the Dancing Dragon form was a welcome nod towards contemporary teaching of martial form nowadays.

Gawd! finaly i watch this episode until the credit!
in my tv show, they always cut it until Zuko's fire is out.
no two masters, no amazing scene of Dragon Dancing, no beautiful flame, .. no "You two should stay in this village as prisoners..! .. just kidding... but seriously, dont tell anyone!" LoL .. !
and it's give me lots trouble to download the episode.

and it's worth..!
love this episode..!

------------------------
K : maybe you're just not as good as you think you are
T : ouch! (maybe she feel Zuko's heart beat change)
------------------------

i think Katara is not really mean what she's said.
1. you know, when she finally reunited with her father,
the fire nation separate them again.
i think what she said to Zuko is just to let out her hatred towards Fire Nation or The Fire Lord.
because i believe that Katara is a good girl, she would forgive anyone IF they really ask for forgiveness.
2. i think there was a talk between Sokka and Katara about Zuko's betrayal to Katara's trust before.
i dont know how, but i think it goes like this :
Sokka : He try to get to you when you off your guard
Katara : yea, and he got me
then Zuko decided to sided with Azula.
this must be leave a great disapointment for Katara.
so it is no wonder why she sounds like a b*tch here.

=============================================
BEWARE FOR KATAANG : please dont read this..if you cant take it!
or you might want to practice blood bending to me T_T

i learn something about Zuko. (Zutarian might like this)
no matter how mean Katara is, Zuko never take it seriously.
or if he is, he just let her. he take it easy on katara.
it's already Three, i guess.
first in crystal cave,he even apologize her.
second when Katara split water to him in earlier episode.
third is in this episode when Zuko confess about his lost stuff. he get mad to Aang, to Sokka, but not to Toph and Katara.

(for Kataang if you keep reading the post above : hey, take it easy, i dont mean to insult you.im just talking to those who might like it. ok?)

--------------------------------
I bet the only reason why some people here find Katara's attitude harsh, because they are all Zutara fans and hate the fact that it will not happen if she keeps up the mean streak. Wake up and smell the coffee, Zutara will never happen.

wow .. i dont know what to say .. Cheesy

well, im Zutara, but i could understand why she saying that.
and im ok.

why i'm ok?
because even Zuko himself, dont mind her ^_^

look. her attitude is indeed harsh. doesnt matter whoever you ship.
there is nothing to do with Zutara or Kataang thing.
nothing.
i just want to see the fact from her attitude here,
that she dont understand what Zuko's being through.
whenever they talk, i think Katara is the only one dominated conversation (i reffering to talk between Katara and Zuko).
and most of it, Katara flow out her emotion to Zuko. (i mean negative emotion, such anger, hate, which is very important to be released.)
that is why the fans who KNOW what Zuko's being through, disagree with Katara who DIDN'T KNOW what he'd been through. that is all that happening.

she is being harsh, because she dont know.
not because Zutara isn't happening LoL ..
of course Zutara might not happening.
but it has nothing to do with the fans feel that Katara's words to Zuko is harsh because Zutarian's disappointed to Katara.
that's ridiculous! LoL

I think this chapter is just AWESOME. But I couldn't understand why Katara didn't go with Aang and Zuko. I mean, she said she won't let them alone...

i wonder if ..

K : what you want to go alone with Zuko! no way! i go with you!
A & Z : sorry Katara .. it's boy's stuff. no girls allowed
==========================================================

i think this is my favourite.
i cant stop watching the scene where Aang and Zuko do the Dancing Dragon form in front of the masters until the judgement time.
it's the best throughout the series

sorry for the bad english. it was my best ..

positives:
-a new and interesting look at firebending
-the leader of the Sun Warriors is such a great character Grin
-Toph's flashback
-Ran and Shao
-learning a bit about Iroh
-Zuko and Aang bonding
-the Sun Warriors
-Zuko showing that he's smart Wink
-Sokka poking Zuko in the head like he did in 102 Cheesy

negatives:
-some of the weakest dialogue and voice acting in the series IMO
-a lot of the humor felt really forced
-Aang and Zuko's little speech about what they've learned at the end felt a little like they just copy and pasted their lines from the end of the previous episode... Undecided
-Aang and Zuko never actually use the Dancing Dragon after this episode...not that I was surprised, that was pretty typical of season 3.

On my Avatar marathon, I decided to watch this one again.

For me, it was a very enjoyable episode. I found the little bit of Firebending history interesting, and I liked the little insight into Iroh's character. Even when he was a dragon hunter, and a Fire Nation general, he was still the same Iroh at heart, by showing mercy to the dragons and lying about their extinction.

"Don't tell ANYONE about us." "So yeah, this is the Dancing Dragon."

I don't care much for the sun god concept..

There really wasn't a "Sun God" concept...

Maybe you were more focused on shipping, but the Sun Warriors never referred to the sun as a "god".

HHNNGGGG.
SO MUCH BROMANCE.

-ahemwhat?-
Aside from that, I reallyreally love this episode. Like, it might be my favourite - I think it's tied with this and the Western Air Temple.

I adore everything about this episode.
Like, it's just so golden. I don't really know what else to say about it.

Ok I love this episode! Aang finally begins Fire Bending training! Zuko of course looks hot with his emo hair! My fave line was when Aang almost got hit by the spikes "Zuko! I think the past is trying to kill me!" (haha) My fave scene was where Aang and ZUko do the Dancing Dragon with Rahn and Shaw. The colors, affects, and music all blended together giving me a sense of peace while sending shivers down my spine, while showing me how important this all is. I didnt like how evil Katara is still being. I also dont like that there is almost nothing on any of the other characters. But overall I loved this episode to death. Almost Perfect!

The ideas behind this episode were great, but the execution wasn't up to par with the rest of the series.  And it's one of the only episodes that has dialogue/voice acting that makes me cringe occasionally.  It just felt like a rushed episode overall, but it wasn't bad.

not one of my fav eps, but still pretty funny Smiley
my fav part DEFINATELY has to be when they were outside the chamber thing and zuko said that it wouldn't open until another solstice and aang says.....
"MONKEY FEATHERS!! the solstice again??"
i was cracking up and had to reply it again and again and again just to hear aang exclaim "monkey feathers!!" love that line...

i also love:

-Katara: Maybe you're just not as good as you think you are.
Toph:...Ouch.
(toph is hilarious)

-Aang: HELPPP!!!
Zuko: WHO are you yelling to?
(theres probably not any significance in this line, but i love the way zuko say "who" the way he empisized it)

-toph's flashback
(she's so cute as a little girl!!!!)

-the dragons
(they looks sooo freaky, but also so awesome)

-the sun warriors chanting
(sounds like the ending credits, no? duh, of course)

-the rainbow fire
(pretty colors!)

-aang fighting with zuko for fire XD
(Zuko: Stop being stingy!!! [or something like that])

-Aang: I don't usually play this card but...I'm the Avatar.
(sure aang, you never play that card XD)

-Sun Warrior Chief: And now that you know the secret of the drangons...we must keep you here as prisoners forever!!...Just kidding. Smiley But seriously, DON'T TELL ANYONE!
(nice save Wink )

-the Dance Dragon
(i really kinda want to learn that)

this ep was really good

I thought this was a pretty good episode, but it didn't appeal to me to heavily, I just didn't love it too much. Maybe it's just Youtube, but does this remind anyone else of The Road to El Dorado?

This was a good episode, but it's my least favorite of the Zuko-field trip episodes in the stretch of episodes from The Western Air Temple to The Southern Raiders. It feels a little too light-hearted in places, considering it deals with Aang trying to get over his fear of firebending. That being said, it also features some of the best animation that Moi provided for the series.
